I see a crazy sticker with 7 modifications on it or I deal with straight up rude person i view it as an opportunity to sharpen my skills and push myself to deal with it .. if you let this place get you in a toxic mentality it definitely will! just try and keep positive and appreciate the craft of making a good coffee it will keep you sane on busy days.Also I think it’s fun to talk shit about these people with the other partners it’s good team building so I appreciate all my karens and their 12 dollar cold foam hot lattes :)

This is a refreshing take. I also take great pride when I can stay calm in the face of a rough customer. It makes me feel like I got them back simply by being kind to them. It’s also a good example for the team and keeps morale up when you keep it positive.

There is this clinically rude customer that comes in every morning, is mad when a new partner types his drink in wrong (even though we rush to make it right with no attitude) huffs and puffs because we don’t give out a knife with his bagel (we’re in California where we’ve stopped giving out single use plastic items unless you ask). There is literally a 5x5 plexi on the hand off with all plastic utensils in it, straws are also within reach and on red cup day when his drink took a little longer said to me “you really shouldn’t play favorites” just because someone who ordered a latte got their drink before him, our cold bar labeler was turned on. Ever since then I told my shifts to treat him like a favorite. It’s not that he doesn’t like that “we play favorites” it’s that he’s not one. I’m sure he’d sing a different tune if he was a favorite. He also only mobile orders now which I know means he’s more likely to get a survey. Kill ‘em with kindness

Even if we “handle it” we shouldn’t have to. There’s Karen’s in customer service all over the world but the US, Canada, UK, and Australia specifically have a unique culture of allowing such horrible behaviour and it has to stop.
