SM playing favoritism? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by bottle_blonde69
does anyone else’s SM seem to favor morning shift supervisors over night shift supervisors?

Been at the bux for 6 years (supervisor for 5.5)now and had 7 different managers along the way .. for the most part, yes , this is definitely true. But not always.

Absolutely. When I started the morning shifts were borderline abusive towards me, making up rules simply so they could have a reason to reprimand me and make me feel stupid. I was even reprimanded by one who didn’t care that I was in the middle of a panic attack after i have been placed on bar (still new at this point) with only one functioning bar and a MASSIVE rush. When I didn’t get a week off that I had requested over the summer by my manager who CONSTANTLY takes time off, i reached a breaking point and I put in my two weeks (sadly I ended up staying because the siren still had a grasp on my soul). Anyway, my manager didn’t accept my two weeks and told me to “think about it” which pissed me off. I even had it in writing. She asked me why I was quitting if it didn’t have anything to do with the time off thing (I told her that that wasn’t the only reason I was quitting) and I said that I didn’t feel valued or that all the shifts were treating me well. Immediately she assumed I was talking about the night shift leaders…I wasn’t. She started talking about how she would make sure she got them sorted out or whatever and that she’d stay late to monitor and supervise them. I was so mad. I clarified in a text later that day that I definitely wasn’t talking about the night staff, and that they are the only reason I’m staying. She responded with something like “I appreciate you reaching out. I’m not trying to assign blame to anyone” and I was baffled…because she very much was trying to blame them earlier that day. I hate this job

my store has only 2 night shift supervisors — me and one other person. every shift meeting, it’s just the two of us getting constantly shit on, even though the morning and mid shift supervisors also do the same things all the time. if the night crew doesn’t overstock the restock, we get yelled at and told we need to, but the morning and mids get slack for not overstocking it because they’re busier, but it’s like sometimes, we’re busy too. they don’t believe we’re that busy because of the amount of customers that come during the night vs the mornings/mids, but they don’t ever seem to think about how we have less partners on the floor at night than there are mornings/mids. My SM even lied to my face and was like “nights have the same amount of people working as mids” which is absolutely not true. The mids have 6-7 partners on the floor. Nights have 3 baristas and a shift supervisor. My SM and the morning shifts have started to blame the night crew for them going through the entire restock in the morning because they’re using so much of the product. When that happens, they tell our SM that we didn’t even do the restock. Which is absurd, because every time that happened I specifically double checked that the restock was good. The other night shift and I get several talkings to about and warnings that we could get written up because we adjust the deposit so much at night, when we’re adjusting the deposit so much because we have to fix the morning/mid shift’s mistakes. I’m so tired of it. My SM is also just openly friendlier to the morning shifts. The difference between how she talks to me and the other night shift compared to the morning shifts is so very apparently biased.

Edit: Not to mention that the night crew typically consists of green beans that need a lot of coaching.

Literally all the same problems here. Plus one of our night shifts is leaving in a few days and they won’t even hire a second one. So this poor guys is gonna be holding down the fort.AND our sm has decided to “pick up” some closing shifts and we’re all about to jump ship now because she’s gonna crawl up all our asses about how we need to do a million more things to help the morning people. I’m probably gonna leave soon because I can’t take it
