Customer: "Can I have one of those walnut pecan loaves?"

Me: "Sorry, but we don't have those on our menu, though we do have banana, lemon, and gingerbread loaves."

"No way, you're lying, I just had one of those a couple weeks ago!"

"I'm sorry sir, but if we ever had that here it was at least a few months ago before I worked here. They may still have it in other places but it's not on our menu. Would you like a different loaf instead?"

"I told you, I got it recently, not a few months ago. You don't have any? Really?"

"Sir which store did you get it from?"

"Oh it was somewhere in South Carolina, maybe Charleston."

"Well sir sometimes the USA has different menu items than us here in Canada so that might be something you can only get in America at the moment"

"Well that doesn't make any sense"

"Sorry?"

This is not the first time this has happened, I don't live in a city that's very near the USA/Canada border either. This also sometimes happens when someone wants to order a drink they saw on TikTok but it's something they only have in America and not here. Nobody ever seems to believe me when I tell them menus can vary between countries.

I also had someone try and order two things they said they'd got in America a week ago, which we didn't have, but when I looked menus in the area they specified and across America afterwards (I was curious), those things weren't available there either, so the dude had straight up lied to me I think. One of the things they mentioned was the almond croissant which makes me think they weren't just getting Starbucks confused with Dunkin Donuts because I know that was a legit Starbucks item.

Also had someone try ordering something that I know existed but wasn't sold anymore, so I told them it was discontinued. They didn't believe me, I asked them when the last time they ordered it was and they told me a month ago. After they left, one of the baristas that's worked here a long time told me it hadn't been sold for years.

Has there been any research done into the time travelling abilities of Sbux customers? And has anyone in the USA ever had someone try to order something that's only available in Canada?

While trying to order something long since discontinued is something that happens a lot (especially at my first store, ironically located near the city you mentioned) I think this was a miscommunication, the full name of the banana bread in the US is the banana pecan walnut loaf. And the almond croissant was discontinued VERY recently, so some locations might’ve still been getting some.

I’d recommend not asking people when they last got it though, it might come of as accusatory and make them get a bit defensive. Bottom line is that you don’t have it, and that’s all that needs to be said.

I'm guessing that they wanted the banana loaf, it was renamed earlier this year (maybe even late last year) back to be "banana walnut and pecan loaf"

Are you talking about plain banana loaf or a different type that has nuts in it? Because the type at our store is banana bread with nothing on/in it. I can't imagine they'd rename our plain banana loaf to be something else. And they told me they didn't want plain banana loaf they wanted one with nuts, which we don't have.

It has nuts on top of the slice. Like when it was baked in the pan there were nuts sprinkled on top and then it was sliced so there's just a few on it.

Tbf I only know about it being renamed in the US, but if he travels back and forth that might be the confusion

EDIT: $1 is what I'm thinking, although the picture looks like it has nuts throughout it usually it doesn't have much throughout it

Yeah, the loaf that looks like plain banana was renamed, it certainly seems that’s what she was referring to…

We definitely have walnut pecan loaves. The banana bread is on the menu as “banana walnut pecan loaf”

Banana walnut bread. There’s walnut on the top and sometimes inside the brown ass bread.
