New Time Off Policy? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by thankurluckystar_s
For a few weeks now our manager has been saying that if we need to call off for more than 3 days, then we need to have the vacation hours to compensate. (eg; if i call off for 4 days i need to have enough hours to compensate for the 4th day.) We can’t find anything on partner hub that talks about this policy and he can’t point us to it either.
Our store is in a college town where many of our baristas are basically kicked out of dorms for a week or two during the holidays. Not to mention, it’s Christmas…. so let us go home? Can anyone point me in the direction of this policy or does anyone even know what i’m talking about?

Idk about using vacation hours but if you’re going to be calling out for 3 scheduled shifts in a row without requesting the time off in advance then you would typically have to file for personal loa to try and protect your job. Otherwise calling out for 3 scheduled shifts in a row can lead to termination.

If you need to call off for more than 3 days you need a doctors note I believe.
It sounds like your manager is not familiar with what they are talking about, as most partners don’t have vacation time and it is not a requirement.
We have had people get injured or ill and need more than 3 days off. Most states now require paid sick time so you would use that before vacation (but it’s up to you to use).
If you took a LOA, to my knowledge that would only effect the coming schedules, not the shifts you would even be missing
