A customer gave us a fake $100 the other day... and my coworkers accepted it...! This is why I personally don't accept larger than $20s. Especially since I don't have enough in the drawer to break large bills anyways.

unfortunately policy is to give them the free drinks if they don’t have another form of payment and you don’t have enough change in the drawer and just do a rnr.
my sm and dm printed off the decision tree from the hub!
Hot-Independence86707 points7m ago
really? we’re told to ask if they have another form of payment besides the large bill, and if they don’t then the shift will check the lock box to see if we have enough change for them. if there’s not then we really can’t do anything for them, but personally i’ve never run across that problem before. i do know in my state it’s illegal to refuse their form of payment so it’s a tricky situation

can you share this resource? I'm on mobile so the hub search is ass and the only tree I found was created during the national coin shortage. it doesn't say anything about giving drinks for free.

what policy is this lol

I can dm you a picture of the one my sm and dm printed off in about 5 hours when I go into work today!

it’s the decision tree from the hub! my sm and dm printed it off after an incident occurred where we were not able to break a 100.
I think the reason for these policies is for our safety at the end of the day. We’re not supposed to confront someone paying with a counterfeit because it could lead to escalation and put us in danger, so we are just supposed to take it and move on

I can’t say 100% this is true or if it changed, but I have definitely heard this. Im an SSV at a high volume store where we get a lot of $50’s and $100’s. We discussed how to approach this in one of our meetings, and yeah we ask if the customer has another form of payment. If not, the SSV can check the till, but NOT the drop box, to see what bills we have. If we don’t have enough change, we can cover the drink for them since we physically can’t give them enough change back. But this is usually a last resort and it’s typically when they’re trying to buy one drink with a 100 because they need like $93 or something back. I’m not sure where it’s in writing, but it’s what my store agreed on for our business.

That’s why I always check for ridges someone please tell me that’s right LMAO 😭
HarpieLady13 [OP]16 points7m ago
Oh absolutely! I check the ridges or the hidden face, that’s how I discovered the gem in the second picture😂😂 I think it was a new barista who accepted this and didn’t ask anyone to check it!
Ok-Inspector11086 points7m ago
The new $100 also have ribbons in the middle.
miniinovaa3 points7m ago
To everyone saying their shift opens the drop box THEY SHOULDNT BE DOING THIS!!!! ITS A SAFETY ISSUE
geekgurl813 points7m ago
We now have a marker to check each $50 or $100 at every register, not that I would particularly need it here…
HarpieLady13 [OP]1 points7m ago
Just to be clear, this was accepted by a green bean who didn’t ask a SSV to check it! I’m an SSV who always checks for the hidden face and ridges, but this barista was not on my shift!!
