I feel a nervous breakdown coming along, SSV advice wanted (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by jalendepew
I’m a SSV and a 3-year partner, and it’s been two consecutive 9.5 hour days with 3 call outs, I don’t know if I can open tomorrow without having a legit panic attack. Additionally, my store manager is sick so I can’t ask her to cover for me. I won’t have a break from work for another 4 days, how should I go about preserving my mental health without just spontaneously quitting?

☹️☹️ im so sorry this is happening to you. i would protect your mental stability by either calling partners from your store and seeing if they can come in or tbh even calling other stores in the district to see if they have a spare partner or two to spare. i hope you can get through the day - remember in the end it’s just coffee!

i know this is from yesterday but i hope everything turned out okay! with keyholder shifts i know it’s tough because you can basically never get them covered, but maybe see if there’s a shift doing a mid or close that you could trade with for a day to give yourself some time to ease into the day before you go in. i find often my opening shifts are so much more mentally taxing because i’ve barely been awake for enough time to exist as a person before i’m walking into a shitshow, but if you can get a good nights sleep, have some breakfast or lunch, do something peaceful before you start your day it really helps. or if you truly need a day, you can have that day. i know there’s an immense amount of guilt when it comes to calling out as an ssv but you are equally as deserving of a break as anyone else. if you need a day, it’s just one day and they’ll be fine, it’ll be figured out. you are not the sm and it’s above your pay grade to be carrying the entire weight of the store on your shoulders, beyond the responsibility you signed up for
