Need advice please!! (self.starbucksbaristas)

Hi!! So I'm a new barista (started about a month ago). During my training, I was scheduled nights so it was slow and I could learn with my trainer. However, after my training was over, I've been scheduled pretty much strictly mornings. My store is the only one in my town so it's SUPER busy; and my shifts always plant me on drive thru the whole time because I'm not fast at anything yet. (And yes, I ask if I can go on bar once it's slow, but it never really is so I get stuck.)

This leads me to my current issue: I need practice! So! Bad! Especially on bar. I want to be helpful to the team and become proficient at things and learn. Also, drive thru gets suuuuper tiring. I was thinking about seeing if my manager can schedule me at night at least once a week so I can get practice in. The next 2 weeks I only work morning and so I already know I won't be able to practice anything. Do you guys think this is a good idea? Or should I do something different? Thank you!!

Sometimes our store slows down a little right after peak. I try to use that time to let a green bean practice on bar with someone more experienced flexing when they need help. You might notice a time that is slower and ask if you can get some practice.

Ask every day for at least 30 minutes on bar?
And keep a log of every person you ask, the time and date, as well as the response/result.

30 days later, you will either be getting bar time or have some actual data to share with your SM.

Good luck. Remember: the squeaky wheel gets the oil. Be the squeaky wheel.
