My understanding is that just because you're available x - x, doesn't mean the store needs require an x - x shift. Just that you can work within those hours.

My thought is there are probably people available earlier and later and those help the store with the coverage needed. Maybe if you opened your availability more?

Or ask SM what you can do to get more hours.

I understand that, but my availability is more open than people that are getting more hours than me. i’m available during the times where staff is most needed. 6 hours a week seems really unethical when I’m available 50+ hours a week.

What did your SM say when you asked why you had less hours than people with "less open" availability?

I'm assuming they are available 10 to 4 or something? Because if they are available 4am to 10am and that's when the store needs coverage, they'd get scheduled ahead of you because you can't work more than one hour of that needed coverage?

I know it feels like it's personal or as you said unethical, and just keep in mind that it's a business with customers and it's a smart business decision to staff to customer traffic (store business needs)

I still say the best course of action is to have an honest convo with the SM. Good luck.

I don't know how the business of your store is, but I will say that at all the stores I worked at, that's a pretty useless availability. No availability for opening or peak and also no closing availability. When I used to make schedules we'd occasionally have a few middle of the day availability people and it was a pain in the ass fitting them in and finding them hours.

oh my bad. i’ll go back to the opening and closing available that still got me and everyone else 10 hours a week. and for hour store, peak runs at those times and pretty much a good portion of the day because we are off of an interstate.

My bad, I guess it's just your personality that's keeping you back then. In seriousness, it's a bad company that's only seemed to get worse and worse since I left a year ago. They've spent the last ten years making conditions worse and worse for the workers and now they don't know what to do since it got so bad that the workers wised up to that fact. It was kind of enjoyable going on the portal and reading the statements they put there and slowly watching the comments under them change from "Yay, you guys are doing such a great job, we're so lucky to have leadership that cares so much" to "You are all liars and we're done believing your bullshit."

Is that every day? That would be weekend peaks which always seem to need more coverage and if you aren’t scheduled Saturday/Sunday there is always shifts in the all people want covered. Talk to your sm over all though. My store only runs like a 3 after 1pm, so if you can’t work peak and you can’t close you don’t get many hours.

my store is on an interstate so we’re always busy. i’m supposed to work weekends but she stopped scheduling me but yet they desperately need coverage.
