One of our SSVs got fired because she gave her cake pop markout to her kid. Starbucks is fucking ruthless 🤡(i.redd.it)

meanwhile one of our partners is chronically late/constant unexcused absences and still has the job
Odd-Seaworthiness54480 points7m ago
Hate.when good workers get in trouble for petty stuff and people like you said are constantly late or NCNS and still have a job and are loved. How much food do we throw out due to mistakes, changed orders, etc. But lets get upset at a partner who gives a freaking cake pop to her daughter using a markout. Ugh.
PortionOfSunshine21 points7m ago
We had a girl who got her nails done and then refused to get them taken off (against food/safety standards), was talked to about smoking weed on her lunches and breaks, called out many times for being too hung over/drunk to come in. She wasn’t even fired, she just stopped showing up. It’s so hard to get fired for being a shitty employee but super easy to get fired for “stealing” from the company.
tacosubterfuge4 points7m ago
BIG THIS. there are people at mine doing consistent no calls and call outs and still have a job. Ridiculous.
Jewicer103 points7m ago
and you're laughing that's crazy
anxiouspeony76 points7m ago
This is always a huge fear of mine too getting fired for some bullshit reason and my life getting turned upside down and all my coworkers text and laugh about how unliked I must be??? Slimy
muddywun17 points7m ago
And then make fun of you online for it! Lmaoooooooooo
RubidiumRB36 points7m ago
I think it’s more of a laughing out of pure disbelief. Obviously I’m not OP so I can’t say for sure but that’s how I read it.
Js_On_My_Yeet [OP]23 points7m ago
I'm legit laughing out of pure disbelief. Like she's been with company for a long ass time and to be fired on the spot over a cake pop? It's legit fucking crazy that this company really let that happen. It took literally months for a former partner to get fired for sexual harassment. And to get fired on the spot for a fucking cake pop is just insane. Starbucks really doesn't care about you people, because if they did then they wouldn't fire you over a cake pop. It's fucking disrespectful to her and to everybody else that works for this fucking disrgaceful company. It really is a tragedy that this has happened, but she has a 2nd job. I don't know if it's enough to support her family. But I'm laughing at the company for how it treats its employees. Not for her misfortune. Yes, some people did have a problem with her, but myself and I person I was texting did not have any issue with her. We were just talking about how unfortunate it was and how relieve the other partners might be. Our theory is like some of yours, it has to be more than a cake pop that caused her to be removed.
geekgurl812 points7m ago
I’m in an at-will state, so technically they can fire you for any reason that isn’t related to sex, race, religion or disability, and the only person who has ever been fired from my store (it’s only 16mo old) had so, SO many write ups and warnings. It took almost the entire staff refusing to work with her before she was finally let go. Her revenge has been to come in every evening lately and sit in the cafe for hours on her laptop ordering the most modified drinks she can conjure, like she always did in the middle of busy shifts.
Toomanyboringpeople13 points7m ago
Yeah maybe I’m just reading it wrong but I didn’t take this as then laughing and making fun of her I took it more as laughing at the SM and the situation. One of my best friends got fired from this company for a stupid reason and I laughed out of sheer disbelief as well
RubidiumRB3 points7m ago
My thoughts exactly!
Babygrincher17 points7m ago
Yeah this is really unfortunate and can happen to anyone, not a super laughing matter
overturned2385 points7m ago
Reminds me of the time that my district manager forced me to fire my main closing shift because they called out once on a close that she got covered by another SSV
MasterMischievous9 points7m ago
Wut….
RosieHarlan66 points7m ago
Did she mark herself out or use her partner numbers on her family’s transaction? They’ve been coming down hard on benefits abuse.
imelliam17 points7m ago
its their child, it's an extension of themselves... everything the child has is given to them by the parent, the parent gave it to herself and got fired
Sourpunchgirl5 points7m ago
Why should the parents get fired for giving the kid food?
jayessdubs7 points7m ago
Logically it's bullshit but indeed this is the policy. They really have cracked down on it and ppl need to be careful bc the siren is always watching
It's BS how the bux handles things. But they will handle things their way w no mercy
imelliam2 points7m ago
Honestly, where do you people get off slobbering on mega corporations for screwing people, over absolutely nothing????
RosieHarlan0 points7m ago
Why are you mad at me? I didn’t make the policy or fire the SSV? I didn’t make up the term benefits abuse or what it entails. A tenured partner I knew got fired for marking out nearly $20k in food and beverage over about a 12 month period and nobody knew that they had done that.
imelliam1 points7m ago
Because you suggested that they enforced a policy properly by firing this employee? You're disgusting! What does stealking 20k have to do with this??
RosieHarlan0 points7m ago
This anger is misdirected. I inquired into whether or not the cake pop was properly marked out and said that they’ve been coming down hard on this policy violation lately. This policy isn’t anything new or out of left field. You agree to abide by the mark out policy and not doing so will lead to corrective action or separation when you accept the job. As others have said here we don’t know the whole story and if she was really fired for just the cake pop or if it was something else.
And the 20k also has to do with not knowing the whole story. You may see a partner abusing their benefits once or twice but you don’t know how much they’re doing it or what it all adds up to.
Ok_Inflation557844 points7m ago
something’s not adding up. I thought you can mark out 7 food items a week only and who it goes to is irrelevant? idgi. did she already have countless write ups? because there’s no way
kitcat121045 points7m ago
if she marked it out and brought it home and gave it to her kid and got fired, that’s BULLSHIT. however if her family came in, and she used her markout on their order it’s somewhat understandable (i still think its stupid, BUT they would technically have grounds to fire her)
Ok_Inflation557821 points7m ago
Wouldn’t it at least be a write up first? That’s so cruel …
PortionOfSunshine4 points7m ago
It’s considered theft of company product which is ground for instant termination.
geekgurl8121 points7m ago
When I think of the stuff we literally put in the trash all day…

\*dumps it in the trash just to cost starbucks money\*
I don't work at starbucks lol
uwumoment15 points7m ago
i hate ppl who are so brainwashed by this stupid company, before i quit i used to give all the kids free cake pops cause we always threw away so many. idk how so many of you can be so blindsided and loyal to a company that does not give a fuck about you
jelizt7 points7m ago
Idk why you got down voted for this. Obviously when no when is around you do what you want but Starbucks says your mark outs are only for you so this isn’t wrong.
toasterstrudelboy2 points7m ago
Source?
Chemical_Currency_1537 points7m ago
What? My SM always gets his wife a drink at the end of his day and we all ask him if he wants his drink or his wife's. It is made very aware that we all use mark outs for family. It's not like we are marking out 40 drinks a day. Just one to bring home for a spouse or friend.
edreesmiraki1 points7m ago
Ig their sm must really care cause our store is the same way(not same as op but same as urs) our manager knows we make drinks or give food to our family. Hell he's asked us before if we wanted anything before we left
vareenoo33 points7m ago
Why are y’all laughing ab this, esp if she has a kid to take care of 🥴
Blocked_ID25 points7m ago
We’re literally allowed to use all of our unused markouts at the end of the week and take them home and they have no way of knowing who we’re giving them to. That is so stupid
RyusuiJL19 points7m ago
Was she known to be pro-union? Whether it's true or not, I don't know, but I've seen a lot of posts where people were hunted down for any reason that could be used to terminate them if they were vocally pro-union.
heyitsmaria2411 points7m ago
I understand y’all probably don’t like them but it’s really sad that you’re all laughing about someone losing their job. Especially if she has a kid to take care of.
srawtzl7 points7m ago
man this is the kind of stuff I absolutely don’t miss about working there. some of the people can be toxic as hell
she’s out of a job for an exceptionally dumb reason, has a kid to feed, and you’re laughing
unless she was literally just working there for shits and giggles and does not need the money this is not a good look
Jesslynnlove5 points7m ago
Broo there HAS to be more underlying reasons for sure. I would bet my life on it.
interyx4 points7m ago
That's a pretext right there. The shift did something the SM (or DM) didn't like and got fired for "stealing" instead of whatever the real reason is.
Garrickrelentless3 points7m ago
I wonder if she was also trying to unionize? 🤔
Levinem7173 points7m ago
Why so apathetic? I was a shift for 9 years and got fired, barely anyone reached out to me. It was so disappointing. I guess people had the same apathetic feelings too. But I really wonder why.
adventurelyfe3 points7m ago
lol I would be fired every shift I work.
PerfectHybrid2 points7m ago
Not saying it didn’t happen but there is definitely more to this story
adorkablysporktastic1 points7m ago

yeah they fire ppl for bullshit reasons. i know an ssv who was fired for being 10 mins late to an open one time, but the shift who was verbally abusive and racist towards the baristas was not fired until i wrote another statement about him. the first statement i wrote with the sm of another store. that very same sm rehired him at her store. it’s all a fucking joke and im glad i’m out
RoccoSteal1 points7m ago
Wtf like her experience and work history and everything she does for the company cost less than a fucking cake pop?
Kritter821 points7m ago
That’s crazy, my SM knew I was giving my markouts to my kid, sometimes that’s what he ate for the day (other than meals at school)
jeremeny1 points7m ago
I remember when everyone used to say Starbucks is very difficult to get fired from
