Hey y’all, I’m a new partner (I started in September) and my manager just texted and said I’m “about 63 hours short for the last 4 weeks of the quarter”. I’m confused because my availability is open for 10 hours a day, 4 days a week now, but she’s been scheduling me for like 10-15 hours/week & when I got hired she said I’d be scheduled 15-20 hours/week. I did have 4 days off over thanksgiving & I was sick one day last week. In order for me to make it I’d have to work 15+ hours a week until the end of the quarter which is very doable for me, but again, that’s not how she scheduled me. She said I can try to pick up shifts but she doesn’t think I’ll make it. If i can’t pick up enough shifts will I get fired?
This is my first time hearing of this and I’m really frustrated. I told her my availability when I got hired, and it’s not very flexible because I’m in school. I don’t understand why they would hire me just to not give me enough hours and then fire me.
Any insight into why this happened or what I can do about it would be appreciated lol

only giving them 40 hours of availability is fairly limiting if you want more hours. they have to take into consideration other partners as well and their availability.

Starbucks has a guideline of 1.5 x (expected hours of work) so if you’re expecting to receive 15 hours (which is the low end of what OP originally discussed with her manager) then she would need a minimum of 22.5 hours of availability… sure if OP was requesting 30 hours that would be limiting

I understand that but during & after my interview I was very upfront with what my availability is & how it’s not very flexible. I understand that scheduling is complicated in their part but I’m frustrated that they would hire me if they can’t give me hours. I guess I’m mostly annoyed that they would hire me pretty much just to fire me 3 months later.

Did she actually say you would be fired or are you reading between the lines? I have never heard of a policy like that. The closest policy I know if is that you're required to be *scheduled* for a minimum of 12 hours a week. However, with 40 hours of availability, if you aren't being scheduled 12 hours a week that is on her, not you.
Starbucks is pretty notorious for under scheduling people. I'm sorry that's happening to you

When I asked what would happen if I didn’t make up the 63 hours she said “I will have to separate you since we require a 12 hour per week minimum”. So I assume that means I’ll be fired.

Yeah the 12hr/week minimum has to do with being scheduled for 12 hours, not actually working 12 hours. Which again, it's her fault you haven't been scheduled. This kinda sounds like retaliation? I'm not totally sure what you could do here, maybe take it to the DM or ethics and compliance? You could also try to transfer to a different store if that's possible. Firing you for not working 12 hrs a week isn't official Starbucks policy, at least not in the US.

Corporate requires partners work 12 hours per week (up from 11 previously), it's not just a scheduling thing. The store I work at has many partners who are in a similar position to you since they keep calling out/offering shifts up.
It is really messed up though that your sm isn't scheduling you enough in general.
