So my store hasn’t let straws be available for customers to grab since covid. I understand the reasoning and keep them behind the counter. Although, a lot of other stores i’m going to all have straws available for customers to grab. Frequently our customers complain that we’re the only starbucks that doesn’t have straws out. Does anyone know if there was an update saying we could have straws out now? Or is my store correct?

We used to keep them behind the counter but my store pretty much gave up that battle. It’s annoying as fuck to stop what we’re doing during peak to hand someone a straw. I get why we don’t keep cream and sugar out anymore but the straw thing was the worst

ha!! so you’re store is correct. the starbucks standard is to have straws behind the bar for request only.
my store has been this way for 3 years and we’re quite strict but other stores in our district are not strict so it puts us in an annoying spot but it’s not that bad.
the plus is that often my “connection” is asking people if they want or need a straw

if you’re in california (it might also just be bay area where i am actually so forgive me if i’m wrong) it’s state law to only have plastic serve ware (straws, forks, knives, etc) upon request, so if you’re in CA it’s the law to not leave straws out ! idk if that’s a thing anywhere else though

Max penalty in California is $300 per year, and it's not being enforced. Many different fast food have straws out for customers to grab

oh yeah i totally agree that most ppl aren’t enforcing it i just came to say that if they’re in california they could tell customers that’s why they don’t have straws out for taking. my store always puts a straw out with cold whip drinks bc you need one but otherwise we hand them out upon request. it’s really honestly cut down and the amount of random straws and wrappers all over the cafe lol

at my store in canada we have them behind the counter with stuff like stir sticks and stoppers too. we’re not supposed to let customers reach over to grab them either but it happens so often and sometimes when it’s insanely busy i just give up </3

At our store, no straws are out. All need to be requested. And nobody that works here complains because no one wants to have to remember to keep checking on straws outside to refill. We hardly make time to refill the two napkin dispensers.

The siren's eye showed them being avaible for customers near hand off, so we put them out.

I have a cube of assorted sugars on my mastrena for my use on cafe bar, so I don’t have to walk all the way next to urns station to grab sugar and this customer goes “Can I take some sugar?” When his grabby hand is already in it 🙄
Honestly it would be great if we can put them back out on the condiments counter in the cafe but it will so annoying to keep restocking them, but at the same time I hate being bothered every second on cafe bar for sugar/straws/utensils.

As a gourmet coffee shop, we should be setting straws out for drinks that require it. We should not for drinks that don’t. They are available upon request. You should never have straws available for customers, that was a thing pre Covid.

There is literally nothing gourmet about Starbucks

Thanks so much!!!!

It’s my understanding that we give out straws that have whip or fraps and customers have to ask for straws for everything else

Yep. This is what I was saying. No idea why I’m being downvoted for stating policy. Lol
