being yelled at for being human and having emotions ❤️ (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by BatWeary
i was on cold bar this morning & had around 45 cold bar drinks in queue. my coworker was trying to help by prepping cold brew in cups for dt but kept forgetting what it was (and at no point told me either), so when i got the ticket i’d have to remake it since i had 6 venti cups of cold brew and mo idea what it was. i eventually told her to stop and apparently went and told the shift bc about 10 minutes later they came over and completely berated me in front of all my coworkers & customers.

they told me i was giving off a bad vibe—which, yeah i have 45 drinks in queue and everyone is rushing me! i’m stressed! and that they’d force me to solo drive the next 7 hours of my shift i didn’t put a smile on my face. i wasn’t even in a bad mood until i got yelled at for no fucking reason, i was just too busy to talk to everyone. they only apologized after i went into the back on my 10 and cried the entire time.

every time i work with this shift i end up sobbing on my 10 because she yells at me for being stressed when i get out on cold bar during peak every single day (and if i ask to not be there, she gets mad about that too). but if someone else is visibly stressed/upset she lets them take 20 to cool off and collect themselves. but me? i can get fucked i guess. i’m just tired of being treated like my feelings are invalid. i’m talking to my SM about it monday bc i can’t work with her anymore or else i’m quitting or transferring. our schedules don’t usually cross but when they do, she makes it her mission to let me know how much she likes everyone more than me & ruins my whole day.

Also call partner resources because shifts aren’t allowed to talk to baristas like that, especially in front of everyone. It’s nice when people try to help, but sometimes they just get in the way and it’s annoying, especially on cold bar.

But when you talk to your SM, let them know that you’re going to be contacting partner resources. That way they’ll take you even more seriously.

I'm glad you're having a conversation with your SM about it. You don't deserve to be invalidated like that-- I wish you the best of luck!

Threatening baristas in any capacity is not okay and should be reported; Even if it’s “just” threatening to solo drive you for not having a smile on your force (what an ass-backwards statement).

Your shift should be there for you and make sure you have what you need to be happy and productive, not sobbing and miserable. Good on you for going to the SM!
