Not allowed to make our own drinks?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Xx_alittlelamb_xX
My old SM always let us ring in and make our own partner beverages, now our new SM won’t let us. What do y’all do at your stores? I don’t mind it but just wanted to see what y’all do!
aaronbdancer90 points7m ago
That’s the policy. It’s just dependent on if the sm wants to enforce it or not
Xx_alittlelamb_xX [OP]14 points7m ago
I totally understand that, it’s just making other partners upset whereas I don’t really care I’ll get my stuff when I get my stuff.
Bhaisaab8678 points7m ago
Unfortunately it is a policy. Depends on how strict the SM/DM are.
My favorite thing is waiting in line to order, then waiting in line for my drink to be made. And then promptly throwing the drink in the condiment bar garbage because my ten is now over, and I’ll have no chance to drink it.

Our store makes their own if they are on the clock. But if they are clocking out we put the order in for another partner to make them. (:
Xx_alittlelamb_xX [OP]25 points7m ago
See we’re not even allowed to on the clock. I was told today I need to go around the counter and order like a customer and wait at the end of the bar for my drink like everyone else while I was on the clock. Our store is super busy and I’ll be lucky if I see my drink during my 10.
nightimevil10 points7m ago
I believe your 10 should start once you're done ordering. That's at least how my store does it.
b99__throwaway6 points7m ago
technically it doesn’t (i know it’s sucks don’t come for me) but a lot of shifts will let you mark it out a few mins before if you’re lucky (before your trash run or whatever). ask them when you start if you can mark out your drink a few mins before your break so it’s ready when you’re on your break
nightimevil4 points7m ago
Damn, that really sucks. My store does it the way I said above. That way baristas can at least order before break, even if it doesn't guarantee your drink popping out within that time.
Flowerfuls3 points7m ago
Ask them to let you ring your stuff in before they send you on your ten. That way it’ll be done by the time your ten begins
selkieflying13 points7m ago
We all do but we all know we’re not technically allowed to do if a dm is in the store we know to follow the rules lol
heyitsmaria248 points7m ago
We used to be able to make our own but people took advantage of it & began to steal extra drinks. Now we can’t UNLESS its the end of the night when we close
Financial_Hand36857 points7m ago
It's a big no-no to ring in and make your own stuff. It is actually against starbucks policy.
foomeitshitme6 points7m ago
Too much trouble. SM here, just make your drink and get off the line.
Ew_Oxygen11245 points7m ago
technically ringing in/making your own is against policy to prevent loss but my store never cared because we weren't stealing shit, they're just enforcing the rules. Sorry man :/
ssubrednulb5 points7m ago
It is the policy, but usually most managers are chill as long as you're not stealing and you're not in the way. I just try to make sure new hires know the policy in case they get borrowed to another store. Also, if it's peak busy, most of our shiftys will ask the next person going on break if they want anything and will mark it out for them. Then they send them on their ten or lunch after their order is up.
uglycorny3 points7m ago
That’s the policy, but at my store, our baristas get mad if we have to make another partners drink, unless the partner is in training or very new. The stores mentality is that it’s… selfish? “Come behind the bar and make it yourself”
Our DM doesn’t seem to care either. Guess I got lucky. 😬
mrsturtle901 points7m ago
My fellow partner’s drinks are my favorite ones to make! They can give me feedback, and it’s always made with extra love 💗
idkcassie3 points7m ago
it is policy, it depends on the sm if it gets enforced. it’s enforced at my store bc there was a big problem of baristas not marking out the stuff they made. so a couple of the ssv’s at my store ask us ahead of time and let us send through our orders before sending us on break so that way it’s ready for us when we step off the floor. or if that’s not possible most of the time the barista on bar will push our orders to the front of the queue so we get it on our break.
waitlike3 points7m ago
We do if it’s slow and you’re on clock, or clocking out if your in somebody’s way they’ll make you wait
oooortcloud3 points7m ago
The official policy on lots of partner benefits are arranged to make it annoying to fully utilize these benefits, thus indirectly reducing the amount Starbucks has to pay its employees
Acceptable_Rate_27292 points7m ago
We aren't allowed to at our store. Some leads don't mind, but if our manager is in store it's absolutely not.
Zealousideal-Star4482 points7m ago
Catch me sliding my numbers and order to the person up front so it gets sent thru in time for my break. My store lets you do whichever, however if your marking out on someone’s till you have to ask permission directly, and if you don’t want the stuff made (say your marking something out you made earlier) you tell the person on bar/ write nonononoonononono in the ask me or the don’t make button, I forget that button exists sooo
absoluteemly2 points7m ago
We're allowed to make our own drinks and put them in the system , they don't care. I've never stood in line for my order to be taken. That's just our store tho.
IndustrySerious2 points7m ago
At my store we do, but I literally just put in every modification that I want in the system then make it
haleslyons2 points7m ago
It’s like this at our store too. It’s the policy, always has been, but they’re cracking down on it now
Hot-Temperature-46291 points7m ago
Lolz, it just depends on who's in power at the moment.
Due-Data-31301 points7m ago
this is weird af to me at my store we all make our own stuff whenever we want to
floofxs21 points7m ago
One of my managers cared the other didn’t.
aleksndrars1 points7m ago
Technically the rule but considered rude. Make your own shit if you want something made. The one coworker in the whole store who wants their trenta strawberry lemonade with puree made for them each day is very obnoxious.
Your new sm picks strange battles to fight but yeah ultimately they are correct here lol
nightimevil1 points7m ago
Policy is that we don't ring in, or make drinks meant for us. I believe it has to do with ensuring that people don't add in extra things (like full pumps instead of half pumps in a frap) that could mess up inventory. I got used to it once I transferred stores, and it wasn't that bad since I always rung up my drinks as I made them. The only issues I might have now is someone not hearing me say oatmilk.
Any SM that doesn't enforce the policy could probably get in trouble with the DM, but I doubt baristas really say anything.
Edit: I forgot to finish my sentence before posting. 🙃
