Unpopular opinion but partners should focus on getting a different job rather the Unionizing.(self.starbucksbaristas)

So instead of trying to help make Starbucks better for future partners we should just jump ship?
PerfectHybrid [OP]-37 points7m ago
Yea
badatlife1515 points7m ago
Eww that’s such a gross take. I mean what about the people who can’t afford to “get a different job,” or the many trans people who specifically go to work at Starbucks bc of the health insurance. You sound like one of those “unskilled jobs don’t deserve a living wage” people.
richayy420-15 points7m ago
Get another job that already has a strong union formed. You sound like a “I get what I want” or “I know what im doing”. Let’s be honest here don’t fucking speak for others if you don’t want the same. This job is shit in the benefits aspect of things. But I genuinely love the way Starbucks runs there benefits and I really don’t want to mediate with a third party.
badatlife157 points7m ago
Lol wtf are you on? How do you think unions at other jobs started? Do you think it was just handed to them? I don’t need my Starbucks to be unionized because I have a good SM who doesn’t fuck us over, but I fully support unionization so none of this is about me or what I want. I just know that there are things that can be better. How can you say the job is “shit in the benefits aspects of things,” but then go on to say you love the benefits. How does that make any sense?
richayy420-13 points7m ago
Also this is a fucking job not a life long career. Im not here for a fucking pension.
richayy420-12 points7m ago
Also this is a fucking job not a life long career. Im not here for a fucking pension and I am not here to retire. This is a means to a end that actually will end.
badatlife155 points7m ago
Again, just because it’s a job and not a life long career doesn’t mean it can’t be a unionized job, I don’t understand this logic.

Why?

Unpopular opinion, this was posted by corporate.

Nah this isn't a the take.

unpopular opinion but just because its the best job available doesn’t mean there isn’t room for improvement, and that is exactly what unions accomplish. why not strive for better for future baristas? why just accept the bare minimum?
chinksauces10 points7m ago
it’s almost just like railroad workers should focus on getting a different job rather than unionizing.

SO TRUE!!!!!!!!!!! jUsT FinD a DiFFEreNt jOb FoRhEad!!!

I’m of the opinion that every employee at every job ever should be part of a union, because those individual unions of informed employees fight for the specific benefits, rights and safeties of those particular jobs. The more Starbucks union busts and punishes stores and employees trying to unionize, it becomes clear that unionization against Starbucks IS needed, if just to support our fellow employees against retaliation. Jumping ship from a workplace instead of unionizing just because it seems like too much trouble screws over everybody that stays at the job, plus the person who takes your place, and entitles management to tell every person fighting for better treatment “If you don’t like it here just leave.”
It’s essential the same argument as “If you don’t like the US just move.” ……OR we could all work together to make our country better.

Since you talk about ppl in the comments needing to chill and it’s mostly me so far, I have no issue if ppl don’t want a union/don’t think their store needs a union, fine. But OP was saying basically if you want a union you should quit, the ppl who are wanting unions are working at shitty stores and there’s a NEED for a union, so why just leave and keep letting new people to pick up the crap and just deal with it. This passive no one needs to do anything to help make a difference/every person for themselves bullshit is why our country’s such a piece of crap. No one wants to take responsibility or do anything to try and fix problems, just leave them for someone else to take care of. Its the same attitude the right winger nut jobs get when someone suggests any kind of raise to min wage, well they should just get a better job, but it’s almost never that simple.

i agreed its a job not a career
badatlife1515 points7m ago
So a job shouldn’t have safe working conditions and have livable wages?
richayy4201 points7m ago
All jobs do. We literally have workers rights. Our country literally fought for this.

EXACTLY this is a job and majority of the people in this thread act like this job is Jesus. This job fucking hates us and we all agree on other post.
