Can I (shift supervisor) transfer as a barista to another store? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by badlifeliver
Can a shift supervisor transfer as a barista to another store? So long story short I really hate being an SSV (the pay is nice but my mental health is at an all-time low), but I hate my SM even more. So a lot is going on with me right now. I'm moving and going back to school, and my SM has been really toxic lately and I can't stand it anymore. One example is denying my new school schedule and threatening me for not constantly snitching on my partners when they're a little late/aren't wearing name tags etc. I just feel overwhelmed, and I'm just not the mean reprimanding type and I've had enough of this.

Do any of you guys have any experience transferring from SSV to barista? Is it possible or will I need to demote myself and THEN transfer? I've contacted three other SM from closer stores and they haven't gotten back to me, but I'll keep trying. Is it possible? Is it difficult to do? Any help is appreciated.

You can definitely demote, there's frequent threads on this sub about it. However I will say it seems your SM plays a huge part in why you dislike being an SSV, maybe see if transferring to a new store makes the experience better for you before deciding to demote?

I second this! I worked in supervisor and department management positions at three different locations with my old job. The store manager was the deciding factor every single time over whether I enjoyed the job or not, regardless of position. It definitely is an across the board thing between all companies I’ve worked at.

I haven’t heard of that, but my manager a couple years back did in fact demote from manager to shift at another store. Maybe try contacting your district manager and see what they might be able to help you with! I’m sure it wouldn’t be unheard of or anything
