I was told specifically not to ring up strawberry refreshers with sweet cream as pink drinks because they were already paying for the extra milk product. Has that changed?
scoot_the_poet76 points7m ago
VSC is more expensive because it takes far more work to make. It’s not an alternative milk, it’s an entirely different ingredient
canidieyet_49 points7m ago
i mean you’re going to be charged the $1.25 or whatever it is for the sweet cream either way. it’s not like subbing coconut milk for soy or something. it doesn’t really matter ig but ringing it up as a pink drink makes more sense since that’s literally what you’re ordering, lol
dfarner43 points7m ago
Does it still have the water or is just a pink drink with sweet cream instead of coconut? I would think ring pink drink sub sweet cream
Solid_Wish34 points7m ago
No matter what, you're gonna get charged 1.25 when you add sweet cream, doesn't matter which way you ring it up
Alex_D-B [OP]-37 points7m ago
Right..so they shouldn't change my order to a pink drink when I asked for a refresher because I get charged once for milk and again for the sweet cream
Solid_Wish47 points7m ago
If you want refresher base plus milk thats a pink drink friend. They probably thought its what you wanted since you dont want wanter. Its was a mistake and you're getting way too hostile over 30 cents for what is essentially a melted strawberry milkshake. Just get your 30 cent refund.
Pylon-Cam-9 points7m ago
How are they being hostile, exactly? They just wanted to clarify something and y’all are being rude and downvoting them to oblivion.
Since sweet cream is considered to be an add-in as opposed to alternate milk, it should not be wrung up as a pink drink.
No milk = not a pink drink
Solid_Wish10 points7m ago
Sweet cream... Is in the milk tab so it is a milk. I was with them until they said charge "me" not "them" or "the customers" . Fake barista methinks.
shipssiren6 points7m ago
The sweet cream is in the milk tab now, so technically they're considered milk substitutes, if you opt to replace a milk in your drink with it. If you do a Strawberry acai refresher made with water, and ADD sweet cream, you're still being charged and it's going to be watered down
AriSchmana40 points7m ago
That is false because alternative milk is a .60 up-charge and sweet cream is $1.25. There is no going around it. If you want sweet cream as a main component in your drink (like a pink drink) the system will charge you the additional $1.25. It’s not that partners are charging you incorrectly.
lilly260_26 points7m ago
yeah we had a costumer complain about the sweet cream charge because she just wanted a splash in her iced triple espresso, I told her there is no way to put it in so our system doesn’t charge for it. starbucks doesn’t mess around with sweet cream because it’s expensive to make lol
aspiringgrandpa2 points7m ago
except now people are getting venti lattes made with it 😭
Pylon-Cam-5 points7m ago
I’m pretty sure they are being charged incorrectly, though.
Since sweet cream is considered to be an add-in as opposed to alternate milk, it should not be wrung up as a pink drink.
No milk = not a pink drink
shipssiren4 points7m ago
Nope! Because the pink drink is made with coconut milk we don't charge you the 70 cents for a milk alternative! However, ANY addition of sweet cream whether it's to replace the milk or add a drop will cost $1.25--- If you ask for it to be a refresher, it'll be much more watered down, because it's made with water, and you'll be paying a 1.25 for a splash of sweet cream.----- Subbing the coconut milk in a pink drink is just Strawberry juice, sweet cream, ice, and fruit. There's no water, so I say ringing it up as a pink drink is the best way to go
clouds18320 points7m ago
do you want the water in it too? or made with sweet cream? if its made with sweet cream instead of coconut milk/water/lemonade then it has to be rung in as a pink drink sub vsc. if you’re just wanting a splash added to a water based one then thats a refresher with splash of vsc.
ManufacturerOk544213 points7m ago
Well technically speaking, VSC isn’t the same as any other milk bc it’s made with 2%, heavy cream and vanilla syrup. Therefore, requires more product. So it makes more sense that they would ring you in for a pink drink sub sweet scream. Especially since you aren’t getting water or lemonade in it. I don’t remember if the sub sweet cream gives you an extra charge but either way I think that if it does, the extra charge is justified since it isn’t like another milk (like reg 2% or other non dairies).
StuffiesAndBeatSaber3 points7m ago
Yes the sub sweet cream does charge. Even if it's a splash. Heavy cream alone is way more expensive then people realize, and that's like half of what sweet cream is, plus then you have 2% and vanilla and the manual labor of us making it. OP, you're gonna be charge extra for VSC no matter the drink.
RosieHarlan13 points7m ago
Since a pink drink already has alternative milk in it, there’s no upcharge to make it with sweet cream instead of coconut milk. There’s is an upcharge with the basic refresher and so it’s more expensive.
Alex_D-B [OP]-10 points7m ago
They tried to charge me with a pink drink and an extra 1.25 for the sweet cream
RosieHarlan3 points7m ago
It doesn’t charge when you do it through the app 🤷🏻♀️
Few_Conclusion_88246 points7m ago
When you do it through the app it’s technically supposed to be coconut milk and a splash of sweet cream I’m pretty sure
RosieHarlan1 points7m ago
No it’s the replacement option. Otherwise it would say 1/2 inch sweet cream
floofxs26 points7m ago
Gag!!! who orders that?! It has to taste like drinking straight syrup. I don’t understand how people ingest these things without throwing up.
Brgnbo6 points7m ago
Since it’s milk I would definitely charge for a pink drink because that’s what it is.
Caaboose4 points7m ago
It has to be run as VSC because the system automatically places orders and it won't order enough product if we don't ring it through. So, it should be rung through as a strawberry acai with VSC unless you're also requesting coconut milk with it.
Creative-Clothes-5203 points7m ago
That sounds like a sweet nasty disaster but maybe I’m crazy
moonbean373 points7m ago
I could see why OP would prefer it to be SAR with no water add VSC because the base drink price is slightly less. there’s like a 30¢ difference (in my area) and realistically we are gonna make the drink the same way regardless
Blocked_ID1 points7m ago
The correct way to ring up a pink drink made with sweet cream is a pink drink made with sweet cream as the alt milk option.

Pylon-Cam-7 points7m ago
You are correct.
Starbucks considers sweet cream to be an add-in as opposed to an alternate milk. Since pink drinks are made with milk, and sweet cream is not an alternate milk, it’s not a pink drink.
Blocked_ID7 points7m ago
Sweet cream has been available as an alt milk in the POS for like months now
clouds1836 points7m ago
theres a button on the pos that allows you to change the coconut milk to vsc. on the milks page.

My main concern is that I ordered a strawberry refresher and they changed it to a pink drink
oooortcloud10 points7m ago
You were wrong. Things have changed since you quit. Also, this sub is for current baristas, so you’d be better off on r/Starbucks.
Alex_D-B [OP]-14 points7m ago
I was not. Thanks tho
oooortcloud14 points7m ago
My gentle human, you are 1000% wrong. Refresher base with water is a refresher. With lemonade it’s a lemonade refresher. The moment you add milk of any kind, it’s a “drink”. Paradise. Pink. Dragon. Etc.
Pylon-Cam-11 points7m ago
Sweet cream is not considered to be a milk, though. It’s a hand-crafted add-in/inclusion, similar to how whipped cream isn’t considered to be milk.
Fat-free, 2%, whole, half and half, heavy cream, oat, coconut, soy, and almond are the milks we carry. If it’s not one of those, then it’s not milk and thus not a pink drink.
ManufacturerOk54427 points7m ago
Looking at the app it would be rung in as a pink drink. You’d be charged more for a strawberry refresher with no water and add sweet cream. They probably accidentally pressed the wrong button and charged you extra. But yes, it’s still a pink drink.
BuyerOk66921 points7m ago
there is no policy specifically on this so anyone telling you that is “has” to be rung up as a pink drink is just not true. order the refresher with no water and add a 1/2 inch or 3/4 inch of sweet cream depending on the size and it will be made the same way, no need to charge for the coconut milk that you’re not getting.
