I would. When I had to put my cat down, the store found coverage for me for my shift the next day.

Yes, your mental health is really important. You can say that you need a "mental health day" or be vague as possible and just say you "dont feel well" if you aren't comfortable explaining the situation. Just let the supervisor in charge of that shift know asap so they can get the shift covered. I hope you feel better, op and I am really sorry about your loss.

When my hamster Winnie died, I cried my eyes out so hard they swelled shut. I called and told my manager I need grievance time off for a family member. Do not put yourself through work while grieving out of convenience for everybody else. When pets die, it’s heartbreaking. They aren’t just animals they are family members, and you need time to process.

They can’t ask why you’re calling out, just be generic and say you won’t be able to come in. My condolences and don’t feel guilty about calling out it’s valid!

Totally. You don’t need to give a reason. I have a headache if they ask you. Sorry for your loss
