What is standard procedure for this situation? (self.starbucksbaristas)

So. My store gets a lot of refunds for different things (drink remakes, orders rung up incorrectly, etc) and I’m an SSV, so I want to make sure I know the right procedures for next time. A lady came in with a tumbler that was broken and was looking to get it replaced, but we didn’t have another one like it and she specifically wanted that one. So I told her we could give her a refund and maybe she could check at another store, but then she tells me she bought it with her stars and I was like….um, we can’t refund stars, you would have to call the customer support number (as far as I know??😬). But she didn’t really want to go through that, and she asked if she could bring the cup to another store that has the one she wanted and exchange it there? I wasn’t sure about that one either, I’ve heard different things. But she ended asking when we get our next shipment of retail and that she would check back then to see if we have the cup.

So. 1. Can you refund stars? If not, what’s the procedure for a refund with stars?
2. Can you return retail to a different store than you bought it from?

And I want to know standard Starbucks procedure on this because my sm is very much, “just do it anyways. It’s fine.” And had told me to give her cash back for the cup even though she paid with stars when I asked him about it.

First off for merchandise, cups, beans, etc., no receipt no returns. That’s very interesting your SM agreed to give cash back, I’d say at most you’re getting store credit bc of the stars. And yeah customer support number is th next best I think. I’m sure another store could handle the return for them but still, only w the receipt

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention she did have the receipt! So no issue there, and I thought about store credit too, just didn’t know if there was another option!

Only customer service can restore stars. We can’t.

My understanding is that things can be returned to any store. She can certainly drive around to find a store that has what she wants. Although, I suppose, a free swap would only be called for if she bought the merch damaged or there was a flaw that led to its being damaged. Otherwise, she should buy a replacement, but what do I know.

Thanks, this is super helpful and clear! And yes, I believe it was damaged when she bought it but she didn’t realize until afterwards so she brought it back.

would of just sent her on her merry way to the next star.

I’m not sure about refunding stars, but I feel like you can? I swear my SM did once but no idea.

No, she was actually very nice about it, it was just a complicated situation and she really wanted that specific tumbler, it’s one of the Christmas ones so it’s understandable. And yeah, still not sure about refunding the stars, I haven’t seen anyone do it before.
