I'm curious about working at a Starbucks? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by NicoleTheRogue
a few of the Starbucks in town are hiring and I'm looking to get out of the grocery business, I'm a trans woman and my current job is decent enough about not misgendering me, but I'm strictly allowed to correct anyone employees or otherwise, they even denied my pronoun pin. I'm good at throwing together recipes fast in a deli salad/sandwich sense, I imagine drinks can't be much different.

Ya'll have any tips/advice?

I know the benefits took a huge hit, but I'm only curious about hrt, and minor surgery. if any.

A lot is gonna depend on your town vibe. We have sbux provided pronoun pins, but they’re tiny and in my experience do little to nothing, ymmv. We’re allowed to correct people if you’re comfortable doing so and your management and coworkers especially so.

The insurance is gonna depend on your total medical needs. If you do choose to work there, there’s a benefits line you can contact once you’re eligible to discuss individual details.

College town, the location I'm eyeing is close to it, my current job is mostly older folks wanting lunch or deli meat

I agree that it will definitely depend on where you are. Starbucks in general tries to present themselves as a progressive company but if you are living in a conservative area, no amount of pride flags in the windows will change the atmosphere your coworkers create.

That said, we have multiple trans women at my store and in general, we have a positive and accepting environment. Very few issues with misgendering, even people who weren't accustomed to being around trans folks. It does seem that Starbucks generally attracts younger, more liberal employees for whatever reason. Not necessarily more liberal customers tho. Still, take what I say with a grain of salt.

You might consider going into the location you want to apply at and sus out the vibe, even ask an employee there if you feel comfortable and they aren't too busy. You might try to spot an employee wearing pride pins/pronoun pins on their apron and ask them what they think.

My store is very diverse and lgbtq friendly. We use pronoun pins as well.
Every store is different though.

i’m non-binary and use they/them pronouns and a preferred name. no one i work with even knows my deadname because your preferred name is the only one they see. it’s on the schedules, your partner numbers are linked to that name, and we have pronoun pins here. only rarely am i misgendered by my coworkers and if i am usually someone else corrects them before i even have a chance. customers are a different story and would probably be less accommodating depending on where you live (i’m in the south so customers are brutal), but my coworkers make it way more tolerable. if you can handle the stress of the actual job, i’d say it’s 100% worth it.

Sorry, I just had a really bad shift today. A lot of people like the job it’s just very stressful, my licensed store is kind of toxic is alll. If you want to definitely go for it

Tbh id grab the benefits and get your surgery then dip. The longer you stay, the more you understand, the more you dislike it. Starbucks puts on a great front. -3 year ssv barely holding on for free college
