Just got fired (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by iretto_yt_wrestlegod
Was 13 mins late because there was a crash in the interstate, even called the store to let them know
dazedinreverse 199 points 7m ago
Even if you were late before thats some bs
arctic-apis 48 points 7m ago
Well how many car crashes were they late for?
hoewenn 38 points 7m ago
Probably lives in California!

-California native

I feel like there is some context missing. 🤔
Nraveles11 58 points 7m ago
Happened to someone at my store too for some bullshit. My manager just didn’t like them. Found any reason to drop
Suspicious-Crystal 49 points 7m ago
Also sounds like some details are missing. It's H A R D to get fired from starbucks. One attendance occurrence would be near impossible... add in "nothing else ever happened" and I'm going to stand by my assertion that we don't have full context.
chamorrobro 27 points 7m ago
It really could depend on store/district. Yes, one occurrence doesn’t really work to fire someone, but if you go after someone with a write up on every single little non-standard thing they do wrong, I’m sure building a paper trail isn’t hard. I’ve heard some people say Partner Resources sometimes does nothing in these situations and they’re just a pretend HR, so who honestly knows if the “It’s hard to get fired from Starbucks” is only applicable to stores/districts where management isn’t a bunch of assholes.
BetaWolf720 6 points 6m ago
This is exactly what is happening at this store. As soon as a union became present in the store, management changed to get everyone related to the union committee get write-ups to prevent them from transferring, getting promotion, or firing them
tacticalcop 12 points 7m ago
nothing is black and white, it’s extremely possible and has happened a ton. once you understand that life gets easier i promise
iiiimagery 3 points 7m ago
I wouldn't say extremely possible lol, we know nothing is black and white but *generally* a corporate company has the same policies for every store and while rarely a manager will break these policy's, firing someone for being late ONCE is next to impossible without other offenses at Starbucks lol
BetaWolf720 5 points 6m ago
This person might be from my old store. We had unionized earlier this year and since then management changed, and fired everyone on the union committee illegally, myself included. Everyone got write-ups for one or two occasions of showing up late (all less that 5-15 min) or used union related activities as "disruptions" to the store. They fired our previous SM for coaching they did for him over 5 years ago and only acted on it when we announced unionizing
Jesslynnlove 5 points 7m ago
Hundred percent there is lol.
rnaggie53 59 points 7m ago
Any precious write ups or communication they would fire u beforehand? I’m so so sorry this happened to you. That’s so shocking I’m sure
Praxlyn 55 points 7m ago
mmmm you’re definitely leaving out stuff 13 mins late would never warrant a straight up termination unless there’s a history or your manager is incredibly strict, which I doubt considering the labor shortage going on
ValueAffectionate287 38 points 7m ago
unionized store, they don’t give a shit. I’m about 99.9% sure I know the OP, this was the summary of the firing. Late after calling ahead letting the store know for very valid reasons? Fired. Forgetting keys? Fired. My store alone has had 3 people fired in 2 weeks. The manager is borderline incompetent, is frequently 1-2 hours late and doesn’t ever call and let us know. But they’re buddy buddy with the DM so it slides.
BetaWolf720 5 points 6m ago
This. They have fired everyone related to the union work and now spreading to their friends and family that still work there
TRoseee 18 points 7m ago
If they’re anywhere that’s unionizing they do not care and will fire hella people. They fired 8 people from a store in our district in one week.
Bazzock041 18 points 7m ago
Your SM has some nerve with the rest of us short-staffed to an inch of our lives out here and they’re firing late ppl who actually communicate….
marigshu 8 points 7m ago
There’s context missing here. You don’t get fired for being late ONCE.
somewheredaydreaming 17 points 7m ago
In certain states that are at will, they don't need any reason to fire you. They're can just separate you from the company. So everyone acting like OP is leaving something out, calm yourself. Sorry this happened to you. It's really sad we're at this point in our company. Hopefully we can be fully union soon 🥲
soundfanatic 10 points 7m ago
that seems very disputable. you gave notice and weren't even that late. call the partner center and see what you can do.
oooortcloud 6 points 6m ago
Unfortunately this is the state of employment in America, not just at Starbucks. You can get fired for any reason, with no recourse. Unionize
iretto_yt_wrestlegod [OP] 12 points 6m ago
My store is unionized
forevermoonshine 2 points 6m ago
were you late more than 3 times this month?
chaosatnight 4 points 7m ago
Were you on your final write up?
Hazel_is_Trans 3 points 7m ago
It’s Christmas it should of been a write up not a firing also get dirt on the store and sue

I quit after being verbally accosted by a manager who took the side of a whiny child after I “yelled” at them aka tried to help them several times.
Deadrax502 2 points 7m ago
Did you take a picture of the crash? If so you need to get your things in order and sue them.
uwumoment 2 points 7m ago
sorry haha this sounds familiar. knew someone that was fired bc they were 13 mins late too. that’s crazy

Same thing happened to me lol
ankitispunk 1 points 7m ago
You got unspoken beef with your SM bruh
Aggravating-Mess3221 -18 points 7m ago
I wonder what else you did within the past 6 months to be a nuisance to your store and co workers. Victim card doesn’t play well here 😉
ValueAffectionate287 22 points 7m ago
Literally nothing, ik OP, would frequently pick up last min shifts, worked their ass off, called ahead for this incident and everything. This is union busting. The store they were at is unionized. Welcome to hell.
hoewenn 11 points 7m ago
Starbucks is literally shutting down stores for unionizing, and you’re suspicious that someone was fired for being late?
GVRDENS_1 2 points 6m ago
OP explained somewhere in this thread that they work at a union store, this is 100% in line with what the company has been doing to unionized locations. But go ahead, tell us how you know the entire story 🙄
