There are shifts at my store that primarily open or close too, but all of them do midshifts. Your availability as a shift has to technically remain open but you can still voice a preference for one daypart over the other

if there’s enough shifts at a store that balance each other out between people who prefer closing and people who prefer opening then yes, but if not you can’t just pick and choose. i believe a requirement to be a shift is to have completely open availability (but most sm’s are lenient with school and such)

the parent comment is ambiguous, tbh.
some stores (like mine) only do one turnover so you have an opening keyholder and a closing keyholder, no mid - if you can’t do one or the other, then yeah it’s not gonna work. even if your store has a mid keyholder, if you can’t open/close that could be an issue for scheduling.
on the other hand, ssv’s definitely don’t have to do both opens and closes. i don’t have opens in my availability because i’m very much not a morning person, though i was trained to open & would do it if absolutely necessary. (literally all our other ssv’s prefer opening so it’s not an issue.) we have at least one ssv who doesn’t have closes in their availability. the rest are more flexible but tend to be scheduled either primarily opens or primarily closes.
i have heard that some sm’s require their ssv’s to have open availability, but afaik it’s not a company policy, it’s not in the job description, and it’s not a thing at my store.

Oh it sounded like you couldn’t do either.
