i feel inclined to stay at starbucks (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by hotcheetomamii
i was gonna start job searching in the new year but with the credit card tips, weekly pay, and the raise; the incentives are too good now LOL
Affectionate_Fart 146 points 6m ago
Honestly get the degree and leave lol
MrsClaireUnderwood 15 points 6m ago
This is the best advice here. Starbucks will never provide enough for someone to live a fulfilling life on. Not on their own, at least.
Affectionate_Fart 5 points 6m ago
I only came back to get my bachelor’s degree after leaving nursing school and life as an ER tech. Even healthcare (unless you’re out of debt) isn’t worth it.
sagexdom 5 points 6m ago
I live alone. Can confirm. I literally live to work and nothing else. Lucky if i eat 4weeks out of the month.
StuffiesAndBeatSaber 3 points 6m ago
100% ASU is the only reason I'm here. I like my sanity most days so I'd rather not stay with SB forever lol
sweetxfracture 112 points 6m ago
That’s how they rope you in.. that’s why I stayed. but if you REALLy think about it, they’re an awful company who hide behind the benefits and the illusion that they give a fuck about their “partners” when it’s clear they do not. (Union busting, labor cuts, etc)

Stay as long as you want/can but my advice as a 6 year partner who just finally left for the last time.. (Jesus Christ i hope I never go back lmao) look elsewhere
hotcheetomamii [OP] 31 points 6m ago
i’ve been debating for awhile but the only thing stopping me is the fear of something else. this is the longest job i’ve been at and i’ve gotten comfortable 🫤
sweetxfracture 15 points 6m ago
I totally get it.. I left twice for other avenues that didn’t work out and I went back. This last time I left for good, I hope. I’m way happier and it’s only day 3 at this job. The service industry really wears you out. Stay strong! If you like it, that’s totally okay! You gotta do what you’re comfortable with and what works with your life. And remember, if you do try something else and it doesn’t work out, they always hire you back! Unless you don’t give a notice or are fired for a fucked up reason
hotcheetomamii [OP] 7 points 6m ago
thank you 🥹 i’m in college so hoping soon i can leave the service industry for good
violentfemme17 7 points 6m ago
Same, I’ve been there since ‘07, I don’t know how to not work there lol. I’d fuckin love to find a job that didn’t destroy my body and paid me what I’m worth somewhere else but I’m terrified of change
Magnumxl711 3 points 6m ago
Kinda same, I made more money at the job I had before this but I don't wanna go back to that career it made me feel really bad all the time. I was like, "let's go back to Starbucks I kinda liked it there."

I thought I would be back here for a month and figure out a new career move but I'm still here.
Dry_Kale5721 1 points 6m ago
I feel the same I have been here say to long an now they have cut my hours back to 20. All of a sudden now shift supervisor can not work the same shift ? Y’all ever heard of this ? It’s like how are we supposed to live. I have had 37 hours for years an now 20 single mom with kids an Christmas. Starbucks does not take care of there people!! Plus the horrible management an bullying
Educational_Fly_691 74 points 6m ago
this is how i felt until my hours got cut so much i couldn’t pay rent.
hotcheetomamii [OP] 31 points 6m ago
i feel it. for awhile i was getting 15 hours a week when i asked for 35. im just now getting up to around 30 a week. that inconsistency killed me tho.
feltcute 39 points 6m ago
tbh i absolutely love my job! i got very lucky with my store and so far my SM is good, coworkers are mostly a delight, customers…are there! i don’t think it’s for everyone, but it’s the first job i’ve ever liked. plus the free drinks and spotify is truly all my basic white girl heart longs for. i have very few complaints overall.

obviously sbux as a whole has a LOT of work to do, they have a lot of great benefits but there’s a huge amount of BS on the other side of the scale.

all that being said WEEKLY PAY??? WHERE???
hotcheetomamii [OP] 9 points 6m ago
i’m glad you like it LOL i’ve just been dealing with the same shit for too long. weekly pay is only in a few states! i’m in california
Nobody_here_42 6 points 6m ago
I think there are 3 states that receive weekly pay as of this week. California is the only one I know for sure.
TraditionalAd2487 6 points 6m ago
california CA Ohio OH and Connecticut CT
Ripyamsripchip 7 points 6m ago
NYC has had weekly pay for years
lilleniouo 2 points 6m ago
Ohio is getting weekly pay?!
Helpful_Hour_2195 1 points 6m ago
MN too.
perfectsizzle 4 points 6m ago
Same!! I love my SM and coworkers and we have so many lovely regulars… love the free Spotify, I could never go back to paying full price for VSCCF
Comfortable-Plane944 25 points 6m ago
Oh honey even with the slight improvements there is still so much better out there
hotcheetomamii [OP] 4 points 6m ago
yeah you’re right LMFAO
loki8675309 21 points 6m ago
Honestly? Same. I think about leaving sometimes but then the good days are SO good. So then I reconsider leaving. But then the bad days are so fucking bad lol.
perfectsizzle 3 points 6m ago
You can have good days and bad days at any job
Fentydior 8 points 6m ago
Not worth it. Always trust your gut when it’s time to leave.
MaintenanceEasy744 5 points 6m ago

S0NofThunder176 5 points 6m ago
thank the union
hotcheetomamii [OP] 3 points 6m ago
i wish my store was union :( but yesss union strong!!!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️✊🏻✊🏻✊🏻✊🏻
kjoy99 5 points 6m ago
Wait we’re getting a raise?
hotcheetomamii [OP] 8 points 6m ago
i’m in california and my manager said we will be getting a raise dec 26
kjoy99 2 points 6m ago
I’m in Cali too and my managers haven’t said a thing🙃 do you know how much it’s gonna be ?
hotcheetomamii [OP] 7 points 6m ago
i would ask! i’m not sure how much, my coworkers said it’s probably gonna be the usual 3%-5% depending on how long you’ve been at the company. i wish they would just do full dollar amounts 🫤
TraditionalAd2487 4 points 6m ago
attn CA partners: tenured partners in a certain window of 2017-2019 will be receiving 4% increase or 5% above market minimum, whichever is greater.

basically tenured partners are getting fucked per usual. instead of opting to compound yearly raises, minimum wage gap and starbucks commitment to keep 27% wage gap btwn barista and shift, now we’re left with a decreased wage gap btwn a tenured shift and one that is at base rate. unsurprising and yet, it still stings so bad. the siren hates workers as a whole. now i’m ranting but keep in mind, they only pay you a minimum wage because they’re mandated by law. no doubt they’d be asking for volunteer labor if the law allowed it.
kjoy99 3 points 6m ago
Ahhh gotcha. Thanks!
hungrymuffin123 4 points 6m ago
Totally relate, but if you can find something better and more stable, go for it. I started at starbs 3.5 years ago after I graduated college (and no jobs came thru) and got comfy here because of Covid and other stressful events. The extra tips have been really nice but the inconsistent hours and being passed up for ssv promotion got me to look elsewhere and now I’m waiting on an offer letter for a job in my field!! Hopefully looking at least a $45k salary with regular hours which is a huge raise even considering the cc tips!!
hotcheetomamii [OP] 3 points 6m ago
omg congrats!!! i love that for you ❤️
hungrymuffin123 3 points 6m ago
Thank you! It’s so difficult to leave, it’s truly been one of my favorite jobs with the best coworkers. If my current manager wasn’t just dangling the carrot in front of me for almost a year for promoting I would’ve happily stayed. But it was the push I needed! Hope you find what you need, whether at starbs or elsewhere 💕
Magnumxl711 4 points 6m ago
Also the savings plan is like a free $250 or something?
hotcheetomamii [OP] 4 points 6m ago
i don’t know about the savings plan, i also definitely don’t make enough on my paychecks to put any money away haha

Same! I work at a busy Starbucks in the shopping mall and the tips increased my pay check by around $300 and more each pay!! It’s so helpful now
hotcheetomamii [OP] 2 points 6m ago
that gets me so excited YASS
snailsdotcom 3 points 6m ago
raise?? pls explain!
hotcheetomamii [OP] 5 points 6m ago
i know it’s for sure happening in california on dec 26 but i’m not sure about other states!
snailsdotcom 3 points 6m ago
omg i’m in CA, how much is the raise?
Losimcg 2 points 6m ago
Ayeooooo !!!
Grapejellydino 2 points 6m ago
Honestly I've thought the same thing
Specialist_Salt_507 2 points 6m ago
I feel you. I’m a 7 year barista, and after the 12/26 raise and plus tips, I will make about $21/hr which is close to what a lot of entry level degreed jobs pay except Starbucks gives me shit for hours. I don’t like my job, but I have the tenure to make the most pay as a barista and I earn 1 vacation hour for every 16 hours worked. I’m afraid to get a new job and use my degree because what if the new job doesn’t pay as well, or what if they fire me and I have to go back to Starbucks and lose all my tenure. I clearly have stuff I need to work on and get out of here.
Same_Litterally_Me 2 points 6m ago
I work at a licensed store. What is the starting hourly barista pay for a corporate store?
RedDeadGurl 5 points 6m ago
15 minimum
kale-igh 1 points 6m ago
Listen I felt that way until I quit and got a job at a local coffee shop. My mental health is MUCH better and worth the pay cut tbh
jazzysoranio 1 points 6m ago
Definitely make sure you have a better job lined up before quitting. And don’t stop looking for better jobs. Just because Starbucks is paying the bills right now, that doesn’t mean you can’t be actively looking for a better job in the meantime. But also, don’t quit until you have that better job secured. Starbucks is a pretty good job…when compared to other food service jobs.
ravenclawreader2196 1 points 6m ago
What’s the weekly pay? I get paid biweekly
Both-Selection-5302 1 points 6m ago
Did your hours get cut ?
hotcheetomamii [OP] 2 points 6m ago
mine actually increased because we had quite a few partners leave recently
Both-Selection-5302 1 points 6m ago
