Can shift supervisors force you to stay after your shift ends? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by manifestingandshit
I have this one shift that picks on me, but I won’t waste your time by getting into detail. I was supposed to leave at 1, and they kept me until 1:15. I know it isn’t much but I needed to get out right at 1. I told the shift that they cannot force me to stay, and they said they can absolutely force me to stay longer if they needed me to. I asked if this was written in the handbook, and they said it was. I was trying to look for it in the iPad and they just told me to go back to work.

Can anyone link me to the handbook that reflects this policy? Thank you.

Seems like you know that it’s not okay. Simply clock out and leave.

Report them to your SM or DM. This isn’t right and you are only obligated to stay till your scheduled time, unless they asked and got your permission otherwise

It depends on what city or state you're in. Some states like MA and CA have stronger worker protections that prevent employers from changing your schedule without notice. In other locations they can do this. The ambiguous phrase in the partner handbook is that you can be scheduled at times that are outside your availability, and terminated if your availability does not meet the needs of the store.

what is the shift gonna do? fire you? lmfao when it’s ur time to go u absolutely can just go. if they didn’t tell you to do smth before your shift ended obviously it wasn’t that important to them lol
