Returning to the siren as an opener/early shift🫡 (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by vareenoo
I quit my job at a kiosk location bc that shit sucked, and I applied and got the job at a regular (?) location with a drive thru and all of that.

I’m quite nervous, my sm said he wanted me to work shifts like 7-11 and then eventually openings. Can anyone tell me what it’s like to be an opener? Pros and cons? Tasks, etc?

Also anyone who’s ever switched from a licensed store to a regular one pls tell me ur experience. I’m very excited to be able to accept tips 💀

I love opening and hate closing. But I’m a crazy person and enjoy the adrenaline rush of peak, and hate doing closing tasks

I closed at my kiosk and fucking hated it, it was so slow and I was essentially by myself from 5-8.30 😪. What do you do during opening?

I’ve noticed that some stores I’ve worked at do things differently. As an opening ssv I will work on my money tasks while brewing iced coffee & iced tea for the day & calibrating the mastrenas, and I’ll have the barista put up the RDT&E food, count and date breakfast sandwiches, and set up the pastry case. However, I’m at a cafe store where it’s only me and a barista for the first couple hours so it is probably different at a DT store.

openings are honestly so much better than closing, time goes by faster bc it's busier, easy tasks, you get to go home "early", and so much more. the only struggle is actually waking up and getting there;-; im not sure about other stores but its mainly just prepping tea, coffee, ice, sani, pastries. and then making backups for things we'll need throughout the day!

Oh my gosh. Opening at my store is amazing. Everyone is on automatic. As a shift, I just have to do shift stuff. The partners take care of everything else.

In other stores, yes, it can get intense as everyone pitches in the get things ready.

In contrast, closing seems like a ton of work.

the worst part is waking up at 4/5am. the best part is having the rest of the day to do whatever - even if i nap after work there’s still so much time in the day but it was a really big adjustment in sleep schedule / figuring out how to “structure” having plans later in the night
