my SM has been having shifts send us home early because of labor hours. Am I allowed to refuse to go home and just finish my shift?

Yes. Cutting labor is always optional for the barista being asked.. they can ask if you want to go home early and you can yes, or no. They cannot force you to stay or to leave.

Like others have said, you may stay and finish your scheduled shift. I also need money but whenever the chance to go home early presents itself, I sadly take it 😭

lmao same. it’s always the shittiest shifts when they ask if i want to leave early and suddenly that last hour or 2 isn’t worth it

Same it’s a battle but the going home always wins

Yes, it is optional.

If you're scheduled it is your time to stay.

I've been asked too leave early once, I just said no since I was scheduled too work another hour. No problems happened

Be careful though, you never know when you’re gonna go from 30 hours to 10. Take what ever hours you can because sbux isn’t giving stable hours anywhere rn

It actually depends on the labor laws in your state. In my state, you have to be paid for at least half of your scheduled shift if you are sent home. Usually, there’s always one or two volunteers to go home early so the people who don’t want to go get their full hours.
