coverage? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by thumbwound
if im letting my managers know i have a fever tonight and dont think i'll be well enough to come into my 8am shift, is it my responsibility to find coverage or their's? lately they're on this kick of "find coverage or show up" no matter what the issue is and as a shift im not enforcing that when someone has a legitimate reason to call out. i dont think im responsible for it if im sick and have one of the symptoms that allow me to use sick time, but i just wanna know for sure. have ppl on my side, you know? and for reference i never call out :)

As per the partner handbook (don’t remember which page), you’re not required to find coverage. Make sure to write your sick time in the book and I hope you feel better soon!

You are absolutely not required to find coverage. My manager told one of my shifts the same thing. Call partner resources and let them know the situation and they should be able to advise you on what to do. I’m so sorry everyone’s doing this lately.
Unrelated but to feel better faster (not for starbucks, just for you) try elderberry and also echinacea and goldenseal (both of which can be found at Walmart) 🫶🏻

nope they are not allowed to make u do that! it’s against starbucks policy so don’t stress yourself out about it and focus on feeling better !

It’s not your responsibility.

That said, my manager doesn’t put up with habitual offenders. Some partners call out sick because they’re hung over or don’t want to come in. For them, she makes them find a replacement. However, if it’s something like a fever or vomiting, then she takes care of it.

You’re not required to find coverage when you’re sick.

If you’re scheduled and you would rather be off? Then yes, it’s your responsibility to find coverage.

Once you notify your SM that you're sick, the coverage responsibility is no longer on you regardless what they try to tell you.
