I work at a corporate store in Pennsylvania, I was under the impression hats or visors needed to be worn, as long as it was in standard color scheme. But at this store, people wear bandannas, someone just wears a thick headband, so all hair is exposed. Just curious how this is not a health code violation, but painted nails and hoods are.

Not required where I am
Just hair at or below shoulder length needs to be pulled back as to not get in preparation of drinks.

It depends on local law/food/health code. Like in one county hats or head coverings is required but in my county it’s not, despite being five miles down the road! There’s so much variations in healthcode and policy so Starbucks says no to nails because it’s very likely that polish can flake off into drinks or if you get stones in your manicure. And I assume that hoods is more or a professionalism aspect (like you can’t come in your hoodies or whatnot).

Hoods are a safety issue too, if it’s not on your head it can get caught on things

Health codes vary by state and even county. Where I’m at, head coverings are not required. The dress code even mentions that it’s not always required. You’re still typically required to tie your hair back, but you don’t have to cover it.
