This was a mobile order. I don’t know how to do this for a customer. I wish I wasn’t an option in the app. Every time I get this I always just give full decaf because I.. well what do you do?
QuothTheRaven-Yikes181 points6m ago
Sure is a fancy way to say Decaf.
JibJab199446 points6m ago
Yah I'd just do full decaf this is bs
PavlovianNinja12 points6m ago
This is what i was about to say.
Affectionate_Guava71108 points6m ago
obviously your supposed to stop the machine 2/3 through and then do 1/3 of a decaf shot !!
if the machine breaks no it didn’t
HamburgIar_93 points6m ago
Just 1/2 caf and move on
ryannmm5-12 points6m ago
can’t half caf a single shot tho😭
Epona_0218 points6m ago
there’s literally a button for it
Pretty-Ad-55163 points6m ago
Mastrena I models don’t
plasticflowerrs-8 points6m ago
the button only works with two shots
zrpeace196 points6m ago
my mastrena has single shot half caf i’m almost certain but maybe some don’t
put the shot glass under only one of the espresso streams and you only get one of the two shots
doesn’t get OP to 1/3 caf though that’s insane
ryannmm5-5 points6m ago
^
Meggilli9161 points6m ago
1/2 caf it is
BekkaBlaze11 points6m ago
Same!
Responsible_Snow710957 points6m ago
Why do people do this? Lol if ur guna choose a single shot, then stop trying to get super specific and particular about the science behind ur cup of milk with solo shot lol i don't even understand why its an option for a solo shot
loki867530920 points6m ago
I think people usually do this cuz they think we’ll give them extra shots they didn’t pay for. Like when someone is getting a 2 shot drink and get 1/3 decaf they think we’ll give them a 3rd shot. But this one literally says single. So what the hell
Complete-Field465317 points6m ago
As a barista, frick Kris
megs128814 points6m ago
Everything is 1/2 caf to me.
tacosubterfuge11 points6m ago
I mean is it kris' fault or the app? They probably think it's possible because the app says it's possible
megs128828 points6m ago
It’s corporates fault for giving them options that don’t exist
BlueWaters9910 points6m ago
1/2 decaf it is…
BlueWaters998 points6m ago
Haha I had the same comments as a few others (without reading comments first) I guess we all are unfazed by such requests. Lol
Necessary_Low93910 points6m ago
Whenever I see 1/3 or 2/3 I just do 1/2 because I don’t have time to do math when making drinks. And I’m good at math 😒
bellamythos3 points6m ago
at our store we usually round to the nearest half (erring on the decaf side), so 1/3 decaf is 1/2 decaf and 2/3 decaf is just decaf.
though if it’s really slow and i’m feeling generous i might try to get closer (eg, if they order 2/3 decaf with 2 shots, i might do 1 decaf and 1 1/2 decaf to get 3/4 decaf). just for funsies.
Necessary_Low9392 points6m ago
I know but I’m not doing all that during a rush. It won’t make a difference anyway and if they are that sensitive to caffeine they shouldn’t be drinking then.
iamthegodess12346 points6m ago
Press 1 shot decaf and add a touch of espresso on top of milk. That will do
yvesagain2 points6m ago
Tbh I don't blame customers for this because unless they have some working knowledge of espresso and espresso machines, how could they know? It's an option in the app so they're just gonna assume it's fine to order. This is on Starbucks for not removing the option of 1/3 decaf for any shot number that isn't a multiple of 3.
SportsChick791 points6m ago
The only time 1/3 doesn’t phase me is for a venti iced customer whose drink has 3 shots. Easy Peary. 1 decaf, 2 regular. This situation? Enjoy half calf.
RVZXR1 points6m ago
We never do 1/3 cause there's no option just do half caf simple

I mean technically you could pour 3 shots and mix them together, and then take 2 shots of the mixture.
Otherwise do half-caf. It’s asking for 1/3 decaf so it’ll be slightly less caffeinated than they want but as close as you can make it.
-Zispy16 points6m ago
That’s way too much effort and a waste of two espresso shots that cost money to make.
Beg1nAga1n13 points6m ago
There is no way to mix shots and pour them and have it at all be accurate.
Half caf is actually technically more caffeinated than 1/3. It’s 50% vs 33%.
TheSortingHate-5 points6m ago
Its a liquid. You mix a liquid and it becomes homogenous.
It also says 1/3 decaf, not 1/3 caf. So it should be 2/3 caf by that standard
Unless the markings are different from when I worked there.
Beg1nAga1n9 points6m ago
So you’re going to mix three shots and then measure one shot out of those three, and expect a quality beverage from it? Lol
TheSortingHate-7 points6m ago
I said it is a thing you can technically do. Do you not have shot glasses you can measure with at your location?
