listen I love my store for the most part but the customer connection shit is a bit much. our score is shit despite the fact that we greet all our customers and I see many coworkers making an effort to make conversations with customers.

but anyways apparently this isn’t enough and now we are being asked to be stage performers

put on a show while making drinks!

I’m really good on bar but I’m quiet, I hate talking to people I’m socially awkward anxious mess but I bust my ass to get drinks out as fast as possible. I’m polite to every customer I tell them goodbye have a good day but now you want me??? To put on a show??? I’m losing it lol

I don’t even really want a show at hibachi. The first time wAs cool , yes. But now I just want my food and conversation with whoever I’m out with

I was working cold bar making two frappuccinos for a cafe order. The two women that ordered them were standing right beside me cheering and clapped loud as hell when I finished their drinks. It was just demeaning

I can totally relate. I’m a very quiet and introverted person, and I always figured as long as I’m courteous and kind to customers and work to get their orders completed as quickly as possible, I’m doing okay. These bs “connection scores” are ridiculous. They don’t measure anything that matters at all, and it’s just silly. I can’t think of anyone who would walk into starbucks and want this over the top, ridiculous interaction with a barista. The majority of customers want their drinks/food and to get out, or to just enjoy a calm cafe to sit in.

Regulars enjoy chatting with us, but even then it’s not like they want some over the top, overly hyped up barista interacting with them. Personally, I think customers want quick and easy so that they can go about their day, and a small portion of customers want to chat with us, but in a *genuine* way. Not in a way that can be measured with a damn number rating.

The customer connection crap goes to show how out of touch this company is with their store setup, as if we needed more proof of that. What’s even worse is how much is based off of the scores, such as something as crucial as labor. That directly affects employees hours and paychecks…yet apparently they base something so important off of these scores that actually mean NOTHING. I refuse to be a performer. Customers don’t actually want that, and I don’t either lol

I’m sorry but the only time I’m talking the customers is if I’m on DTO or taking front orders, or the quick “have a good one” at the handoff plane. I can’t hear shit on bar over the steam wand and the beans grinding, so anyone expecting a full conversation is about to be sorely disappointed. Wtf.

I’ve always been creeped out by the number of customers who film us or take pictures of us.

Unfortunately the CC score only goes up when someone chooses the best option

After taxes it's literally more like $9 hourly :(

Last paragraph.. SAME. I try to connect but most of the time, it just feels so ungenuine and awkward.

What is meant by "put on a show at bar"? Like what are you being expected to do?
geegeemiller 3 points 6m ago
I rather y’all didn’t really talk to me to be honest. I can’t stand forced conversation. It’s soo awkward. I just need coffee ☕️ 🤷🏻‍♀️😂
