hi folks, i have a question about references and general practices

i asked my SM if i could list them on my resume, and they said no, that they don’t do personal references. that’s okay, fair enough.

i then asked if i could list a specific shift supervisor, if that would be okay. (obviously with that shifts consent). (i was asking my manager abt this because at a previous job it was company policy to not do references at ALL, they could only provide a record that i worked there).

anyway, my SM said listing a shift would be weird because typically employers looking for references would call the store and ask for the manager. sooo does this mean that if i listed the store and store number on my resume, and if someone called and spoke to her then she would provide a reference?? but i just can’t have her name on my resume??

i am very confused. should i just put the store, location, and store number on my resume then? i feel like it would look unprofessional not to have a name listed, like i couldn’t get anyone at that store to agree to give me a good reference (which is half true).

i am in university so half the reason i got this job is for money, the other half being to build skills on my resume. if i can’t list starbucks at all that would suck :(

thank you for reading all the way through, i hope you have a good day <3

i mean it is the SM choice whether they personally want to or not. however i don’t believe it would be weird. if you write down the name of the shift lead (and they’re okay with it) if anyone calls for reference they will ask for that name. if said shift is okay with it, just put down their personal phone number. i’ve done that for my baristas multiple times! if all else fails, use a coworker that you’re on shifts with a lot. or even a regular customer that you’re friendly with. they can definitely account for your work ethic, skills, and strengths. best of luck partner!

of course it’s the SMs choice whether they want to be a reference, i was just confused on how to proceed like professionally and stuff, thanks for your response!! :)
