Can we steam vanilla sweet cream? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Professional-Cat393
I was told we can’t steam vsc because the vanilla syrup damages the steam wands, but can’t find anything in writing.

ideally you wouldn’t want to, but it is an alternative milk option that we can ring in now, plus we steam lemonades and matcha which contain so much sugar lol

Yeah we were having this discussion earlier today because customers were asking for peach juice since we’re out of peach tranquility. In the past I know we’ve done this, but our shift was saying we weren’t supposed to and I know I’ve seen it on here. It makes sense and we were able to get the customer ok with just pouring it in cold since it’s already steeped with hot water. But it definitely seems weird if we can steam lemonade and matcha and vanilla sweet cream since anyone can ring it in as an option that we should be able to do peach juice.

I’ve heard we can’t steam the refresher bases🤷🏼‍♀️ I’ve steamed peach juice in lieu of peach tranquility tho. Just add some to the lemonade

We steam apple juice too,, so as long as you breakdown the machines well at night i don’t see why not tbh

Matcha doesn't have sugar though unless starbucks changed what they use? It's super bitter.
neighborhoodswamphag 6 points 6m ago
There has always been sugar in the matcha powder itself.
ghostt72 3 points 6m ago
depends on the country lol USA has sugar in matcha fs Canada has no sugar
shipssiren 2 points 6m ago
No there's little bits of sugar in it now

Not really any worse than when we steamed eggnog
Professional-Cat393 [OP] 12 points 6m ago
True, didn’t think of that.
darkwolf523 1 points 6m ago
Im kinda sad we don’t have eggnog this year. The lattes were ass but eggnog itself is 🔥
derrussian 32 points 6m ago
Yeah, we can technically steam anything. Do we, no, but sweet cream yeah considering we already can steam breve or straight up heavy cream, and while it's sweetened, as mentioned above qe already steam lemonade and matcha. We even have some regular who get lattes with vanilla bean steamed in their milk
MrDunsparces 14 points 6m ago
We steam sweetened matcha powder with actual sugar, so vanilla is prolly fine :D
geekgurl81 11 points 6m ago
We do it all the time. It does sound like a dying animal though.

We used to steam sweet cream for the Irish Cream Americano years ago

It makes a horrendous sound, but ya can
GetMiataHere 1 points 6m ago
irish cream americano? that's 2 of my favorites drinks together. how do you make it?
tree_sah 2 points 6m ago
Current recipe is just an American Misto (half hot water and half steamed milk) with regular shots of Irish cream syrup + a strike of cocoa powder on the top. Old recipe was the same but with steamed vsc instead of steamed 2%
R1P2MYOUTH 10 points 6m ago
i dont see why you wouldn't be able to tbh
Professional-Cat393 [OP] 5 points 6m ago
Idk😭 once upon a time that’s what a shift told me
Jewicer 8 points 6m ago
I mean isn't there a whole option to make drinks from just sweet cream now
Professional-Cat393 [OP] 2 points 6m ago
Correct. This is why I asked.
Jewicer 2 points 6m ago
oh
moosmoons 3 points 6m ago
I’m pretty sure that’s a myth that somehow got spread around?? Because for some reason someone told me at my store that we couldn’t do that, but then we had a store meeting and the manager said we could because we steam lemonade, which also has the sugar that would supposedly damage the steam wands??? Idk how it all started but now we just do it at our store ʅ(◞‿◟)ʃ
feltcute 3 points 6m ago
i still don’t know how to do hot bar but i’m fairly sure i’ve rang in a few hot lattes with sweet cream instead of milk. if i wasn’t supposed to, i didn’t know 😩
Professional-Cat393 [OP] 5 points 6m ago
It recently became a “milk” option and I’ve seen so many hot mobile drinks with sweet cream so I’m pretty sure we’re good. But I’m a 3 1/2 year partner, and I still don’t know because this just became a thing😭
Psychoegorl 2 points 6m ago
I remember hearing this as well but no one believes me lol I head we can’t steam any syrup because it’ll get stuck in the steaming wand, but any powder and juice is okay. So I usually just steam the vsc unless I can tell the vanilla has separated. But I also have no idea where this would be in writing.
neighborhoodswamphag 1 points 6m ago
Lol. juice also contains sugar. And so does our matcha. We literally made a molten chocolate latte that required us to make chocolate milk….then steam it. it really doesn’t matter what you steam as long as you’re purging your wand properly after each use.
Professional-Cat393 [OP] 1 points 6m ago
So glad you heard that too. Was beginning to think I was crazy😅
sweetxfracture 2 points 6m ago
I mean, we steam matcha so why not?
