I have my first closing shift this week. Do you guys have any tips?? My training has been severely lacking, so I just wanna know what to expect/what to pay extra attention to. Anything helps !!

Closing is fairly easy, its a lot of cleaning and making sure everything is stocked. The espresso bars get cleaning tabs to do their cleaning cycle before being put into deep sleep.
As far as anything to pay extra attention to, I'd say just look out for any sticky spots on counters, make sure there's not random stuff laying around, put away cleaning products, change a garbage bin if it's full, change out a product if you see that it's almost empty, make sure everything's dated properly.
Always ask your partners or your SSV what you can personally do to help :) they can guide you as well

Just to add on to what they said , but you can also look at our ops cards for guidance.

There is also how to clean basically anything on the iPad. It’s under store resources. If a barista doesn’t know how to clean something I’ll pull the video up on the iPad.

my biggest tip is always be busy!! please ask questions because (at least at my store) closing is always insane so make sure you are getting everything done quickly. closing is super fun with the right people though so have fun!

I'm a closer and honestly if it's your first closing shift they should be telling you what to do. The main priorities are making backups/restocking and washing pretty much every dish and surface in the store. I second the other commenter, just continuously ask what you can do. Depending on how busy your store is at night, it may *seem* like there's nothing to do but the reality is there are a ton of tasks, so just keep asking whenever you finish one!

I love closing but when having new partners close I HATE when they just stand around and stare. It’s easy but there is A LOT of tasks to get done plus only 2 baristas closing together. If you don’t know what to do please ask. I promise it’s better to ask questions than to stand around. If you don’t know what to do and everyone is busy you could do dishes, wipe down counters, sweep, and check bathrooms. That’s just some basic tasks I always suggest can be done at all times. Good luck!

i have this one partner that will repeatedly wipe down tables despite them already being clean. after that, they'll hang out in the back and go on their phone while im sequencing loads of dishes

Make sure to dump teas/iced coffee and double check for anything going out that night!
