Normal training?? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Other-Wash-3559
So today was technically my 4th day of training. I've only had maybe 5 hours total of on the floor training, and I've expressed that I'm uncomfortable doing things on my own because I need assistance and extrs practice. But today they put me on drive thru and on bar by myself- despite me repeatedly saying "I can't do this by myself, it's too much"

Not to mention, I was told I would have TWO WEEKS at least of training- and they specifically had me shadow my trainer's schedule for that reason. Yet I never even met with my trainer today. I was totally thrown into things despite being told otherwise. I had a total mental breakdown when I got home because of how overwhelmed I was. Is this normal or should I talk to my manager about it??

Definitely not normal at my store if the trainer doesn’t make it to one of the shifts and we can’t get a different trainer to fill in we talk to the trainee and ask them if they want to not come in as they won’t have a trainer (technically can’t tell them to not come in if it’s within 72 hrs of the shift)

Should I talk to my manager and just tell him that I still need extra assistance? We're extremely understaffed right now and I feel like I'm bothering him by asking but I can't do that again lol

Just think of it like this- is it more of a bother for him to set up a new trainer for you now , since you've been on boarded and put in the system and dipped your toe in...

Or for you to be too overwhelmed that you quit and he has to hire someone brand new and start all over again...

He needs to be there to support you, and you gotta be the squeaky wheel. There's a certain amount of 'overwhelmed' that comes with learning when you're properly trained but when you've barely been shown anything they can't expect you to know what to do. Improper training hurts the customers and the company in the long run.

Same here, I'm really new and I work in one of most frequented coffee shop of my city with a lot of customers every day and every hour. They put me alone day 2. I was loosing it lol. Today is my 4th day of work and I tried to memorize a lot of thing explained in documents but I am really uncomfortable right now. The others barista/partners are really nice with me and I give my best, but this training thing seems to be nothing more than 2 hours on your phone once and then work on it at home or suffer at work.
