if you don’t know the sizes PLEASE JUST SAY SMALL MEDIUM LARGE. i’m tired of people ordering tall drinks and then getting mad at me when it’s not a venti. just say small medium large, i promise i’ll understand
spookbish69122 points6m ago
This reminds me of one of my regulars coming in yesterday and I go “hey are you doing your tall HCMT” and she gets pissed and says “not a tall a SMALLL” husband didn’t look happy to be with her
Impressive-Effort82094 points6m ago
when people ask the sizes i just say small, medium, and large atp, like it really does not matter
PortionOfSunshine33 points6m ago
My store has our cold cups on display, labeled, next to the register. It helps a lot of people learn the sizes and instead of arguing I can just point them to the cups.
Impressive-Effort82011 points6m ago
see, that’s cool! my store is pretty bland. we need more things like that haha
hantnah89 points6m ago
I had a regular once that said “light cream” in their coffee. The first time I gave them what I thought was light cream, I.e. barely any cream, they yelled at me that the coffee was too dark. Turns out, they wanted “EXTRA cream” so the coffee color was “light” 🤨
Torirock1030 points6m ago
one time this guy wanted super super light cream in his iced coffee. but he wanted it so light that it didn’t even change the color of the coffee?????? so we couldn’t make him happy and he left
chrichri3333327 points6m ago
When I worked at a tarbucks, there was an employee who wanted her Americano like that, so one time, my coworker tipped an unopened box of breve over her Americano and she said it was the perfect amount.
Torirock105 points6m ago
💀
sammieduck6942025 points6m ago
at that point i just go to my standard “this is a restaurant where we serve menu items available for guests to order. we have standards and recipes to follow, and if even after attempting different modification options you still aren’t happy, feel free to enjoy the cost savings and quality guarantee by making it your own at home. at this point, we can’t do any more so i strongly encourage you to craft it yourself” and that usually shuts them down
voidsalts12 points6m ago
That’s when I hand a customer cream on the side and tell them that they can do it the exact amount they want 😇
Responsible_Snow71091 points6m ago
At that point, i would have just given him the cream on the side and watch him try to do it himself but he seems like the type to get mad at that because even he knos he wouldnt be able to perfect it to the point where the coffee barely changes color after adding his stupid ass cream lol
Torirock108 points6m ago
bruh what 😭
Lcolecrochet7 points6m ago
Ive had this interaction before. So frustrating.
-_-slimshady52 points6m ago
i love when they ask in a sassy voice “what are your sizes🤨” and i always hit them with the “small, medium, and large” and they feel so stupid for asking. literally who cares if you use the names or think the names are stupid. say what size you want and move on😭
-_-slimshady20 points6m ago
if they’re nice about it, i just list the cup sizes by oz. “oh, for hot drinks we can do an 8oz, 12oz, 16oz, or 20oz!”
Garfield_Simp24 points6m ago
If I see someone seems confused about the sizes I’ll take one of each up out (assuming I’m not on TDO) and show them so they can pick from there, I do typically do this when someone asks for the smallest size, since that would be a short and every time I’ve done that they’ve chosen tall instead and said the short was way too tiny. So far I haven’t had an issue with the sizes but have gotten customers complain because I followed exactly what they wanted me to do
mmms44421 points6m ago
I once had a lady on cafe ask me if she can say small/med/large and I said yes we will know what it will be. She asked me because apparently at another Starbucks, the baristia threw a fit and refused to take her order because she said medium instead of grande. I always tell them if that's easier to say it that way. I try to make it easy for them and us to get them in and out
mymelodywithaglock7 points6m ago
they always say “the last barista threw a fit” when i’m guessing the barista was just exasperated because the customer were making it difficult for them to write the drink down. We are not untamed brats! Just tell us the size 😂
croissantboyy4 points6m ago
tbh i've had my some of own baristas that were so on their starbucks high horse that they would be really snotty and rude to the customer about calling the sizes by the starbucks names despite the customer being nice and having super easy orders. but i've def had customers be super annoying about it too. 🤷
arctic-apis12 points6m ago
I just always order by volume. I would like a 16 oz breve. Easy. However if we go to cold stone I just point at the size I want I’m not saying that shit
rocketeeri15 points6m ago
fr if u don’t like the starbucks names try going to cold stone. “can i get a gotta have it 🤓🤓🤓” jfc kill me now
skylikeslemonade11 points6m ago
literally when people are like what’s a medium again?? i’m like you can just say medium i do know,, what a medium is
alh1st9 points6m ago
omg or when they say made up words instead of the correct size and then they laugh and say “lol sorry I don’t know the Starbucks lingo” -_- small, med, or large idiot -_-
TransposedApophenia6 points6m ago
"what are your sizes?"
\-blinks-
"smallmediumlarge"
streetratroadie2 points6m ago
Or “What’s your large?” Like WHAT
Responsible_Snow71091 points6m ago
Lol at my store they say it in a different way. Theyre like "whatever the large is". They could have kept out the words "whatever, the, is" since theyre saying "large" in their sentence anyway. Even if they dont say the size name in Starbucks terms, they feel more comfortable when they acknowledge that its called something else lol
Gameb0i61 points6m ago
When people ask what sizes we have j just say S M L. Makes it easier since every size we offer of another word for Large. 🙄
nakedavocado1 points6m ago
Some customers act like you're gonna jump the counter and beat their ass for not using t/g/v lol
LaxHnl1 points6m ago
I thought I was the only one who did that. 😂I never understood the sizes, so I just say small, medium or large. And for cold drinks, I memorized Trenta as the biggest one. Normally, I place my order through the app for in store pick up.
I remember taking my Italian colleague to Starbucks for the first time and she found the entire menu amusing, ridiculous and confusing. "What is this, Frappucino?"
nynequbes1 points6m ago
You have to keep in mind that back in the 2000s when Starbucks was a bit more exclusive/elitist and wasn’t an establishment frequented by everyone that baristas and customers did sort of use the sizes as a gatekeeping tactic. It’s become such a meme that people believe we’ll actually give them shit. I feel like with that in mind you gotta cut people some slack when they get self conscious about it
fresh-moon1 points6m ago
hate when they ask for 16 oz etc

egirlpiss-39 points6m ago
well thats just not fair on baristas because we technically have like 4-5 cup sizes depending on if the drink is hot or iced. short, tall, grande, venti, trenta..
even if a customer says “small” for a hot drink, now i have to take the risk that they mean a tall by default, or a short. half the time, they can’t elaborate and i shouldn’t be expected to show them the cup sizes every single time. especially with dtos, i don’t have any way to actually clarify unless they know what they’re asking for (which they usually don’t). same with large iced drinks, especially teas and shit. sometimes they mean trenta and not venti. its super annoying to use broad terms at a place that carries 5 different drink sizes total.
maybe that’s just a nuance and i’m a pos. but its not that hard to learn what the sizes of the drinks are. if someone is ordering at an establishment i expect them to have an idea of how big they want the drink to be. its literally not that hard, and it makes everyones life easier, especially mine because i won’t have to remake any drinks because “uegghhh its too little i asked for a large is this a large??” when i hand them a venti and not a trenta
eliettgrace [OP]33 points6m ago
i’ve come to realize that not a lot of people get shorts, and to me i’d rather show the 2 small cups and the 2 big cups than make a drink the wrong size cause people don’t know how to order. the trenta drinks ill ask them “large or extra large” if they order a large refresher/tea. i just hate when people get mad at me for making the size they asked for.
KJ2998SJ12 points6m ago
Exactly. I always said for small, we've got our regular small, and the kid's size too which is really tiny. And for large if the drink they wanted was available in trenta, I said we've got large, and extra large, which is really big.
Sometimes they want to see the difference, which like you said, is so much easier just showing them two cups. But most of the time they figure it out for themselves
eliettgrace [OP]8 points6m ago
and then they order the wrong size talking about “i ordered the large!” no honey you ordered a tall
KJ2998SJ6 points6m ago
I had this guy once, I didn't take his order but I handed it off, and he looks at it, and is like "that's supposed to be a tall" I stared at it for a second and then I looked back at him and I was like "that is a tall"
He looked so bewildered, said "that's a tall?" And took it and left.
Like, I feel bad because when you're paying that much and you think you're ordering a large, it sucks, but like, just ask what size is what, or say small medium large if you don't know. Clears up any confusion before it happens
egirlpiss-4 points6m ago
i get it. i just think i shouldn’t have to spoon feed customers every single time. i do it for those who are clearly clueless and genuinely don’t know the sizes, but if a customer comes in and confidently says “i want a small” i’m not gonna get into semantics with them because i just don’t have the time or patience 5hrs into a shift. whatever button i press is whatever they get and they can deal with it if they want
i just feel like all of this could be solved if our customers could think for 9 seconds and go “oh maybe i should know what i’m ordering” and use the words we literally use to describe the drink sizes, bc even if its cringe to say venti, telling me you want a “tall” drink and getting a tall drink is not my fault
eliettgrace [OP]6 points6m ago
hahaahh customers actually knowing what they want??? the amount of people that have asked for macchiatos and wanting fraps instead..
egirlpiss-2 points6m ago
no cuz why did i get a “carmel crunch cappuccino” yesterday purr !
tang0foxtr0t5 points6m ago
why don’t you just like ,,,, clarify with the ounce amount ???
egirlpiss1 points6m ago
cuz every time i try to they just get more confused usually. i think my customers r just not that savvy for some reason
