Pay me more to care about customer connections
NewsLife_247 17 points 6m ago
My store has a score of 69 and my manager wants to get to 80. Will I get paid more to get to 80? No. Idc, I will still get paid the same if we are at a 27. Customer connections score only benefit the SM

REAL. our customer connection score is the lowest in the district and we aren’t getting pay cuts

Customer scores also vary wildly from region to region. In places where people are less “friendly” i.e Boston, NYC scores are like 15-40 whereas I have friends in the midwest and the south where their scores are like 70. There are just way too many variables.

THIS. When I start receiving bonuses for this shit, then I will put in an effort. Till then I'll only put in the effort I'm being paid for (and with inflation going up and wages not, the effort is also going down)

For the love of god not the bingo sheets. Customers can tell when you aren’t being genuine in your interactions, and if someone was like “what’s ur favorite color/tree/dog breed etc 😃” I’d be rather annoyed. Don’t catch me with that fake shit. Ask about their day, what they’re up to, how was work, something that shows you are actually interested in *them*. As for raising customer connections on the store side, if employees are happy in their work environment their customer interactions will be more pleasant. If your customer interactions suck, it’s probably because your store environment sucks.

i loveee putting fun little stickers on the drinks in drive thru and mobile orders when i have the time! just little service ones off amazon that day “thank you!”, “have a good day!”, etc. another thing is trying to remember as many orders as possible, greeting everyone by name, etc!

We are actually pretty good about remembering names and orders, especially given that we are a very high volume cafe. I have an ssv meeting tomorrow and my sm told us to bring new ideas to the meeting to engage with customers and to give incentives to the baristas to also connect

try ordering some business stickers off amazon and putting them on the cups! our CS puts them on all the stocked lids during open/downtime and i think that has tremendously helped our customer service score! people always smile and make a comment about the stickers. another thing is if i notice a large mobile order, i watch the hand off if it is slow. if someone has their hands full, i let someone know over the headset or run and get the door for them myself if i am able!

another thing is if someone sits down at a table and they have food, i will run it to their table for them with some napkins (people always get very flattered by this— i always do this with my regulars!) i also offer to wipe down the table for them if i’m able.

If you don't wanna buy stickers, you can just take a sharpie and write cute notes on the cups. Some partners at our store used to do that. Stuff like "Have a nice day!" "You look beautiful!" or just "slay" (lol) or even hearts or something works
softheartelectricsol 12 points 6m ago
compliment them!! and make it seem genuine. for example a lot of ppl have gotten their nails done for the holidays so i make sure to compliment them. also smile literally all the time you’re talking to them, they def notice it. i do it consistently and 7 out of 10 times ppl tell me that they appreciate the smile.

writing on the cup and stickers on the cup are also fail proof methods usually

tell jokes at the window! one of our baristas does this and the customers love it.
spicyychorizo 1 points 6m ago
I did this! I’d always ask if they’d want to hear a joke and usually they’d say yes
Complete-Field4653 10 points 6m ago
This is terrible but whenever I make self depreciating jokes my scores go up 😂 I figured I should say some terrible things about myself so the customer won’t 🤷🏻
GhostfaceJK 7 points 6m ago
i did that once and my coworker told on me to our ssv and she had to pull me aside to talk to me lmao

These will sound dumb but I’ve had them work. The simple one is focus on ops. Speed of service, taste of beverage, order accuracy and cleanliness all matter on how the store is remembered by the customer. The second is to ask for a joke at order, say something like Jenn at the window is having a bad day if you can share a joke that would be great. This makes it so Jenn at the window has a much easier time connecting because the customer starts the conversation.
sweetmiilkk 1 points 6m ago
totally agree on focusing on ops. most of the comments people have left for us are complimenting our stores cleanliness, organization, speed or service, and quality of drinks. the rest of the comments normally mention baristas remembering their name or being funny/friendly. ops goes a long way!

Higher pay would be nice. I never cared about the score at all. Even shifts shouldn’t care. The sm can get a raise, that’s the only reason they push everyone else about it

complimenting customers is a great way— a lot of times i'll compliment things like their nails, makeup, clothes, etc
Chromosomes23 1 points 6m ago
Greeting customers differently and just joke with them of how they need a bigger menu.
