Retaliation (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by DragonslayerKal
Hi i don’t really post on here unless its to give advice but now i need advice. Has anyone had any issues with a dm targeting a specific store because of someone asking a question?

For context; a while back my store had a meeting with the dm of our area. Everything was going well until one of my coworkers (not gonna name names as they no longer work for starbies) asked her if we could have better communication regarding promotions. Her response was a non-answer as she not only continuously dodged the question but also yelled at them and humiliated them in front of all of us. And now our store has the least amount of hours available to schedule when we are one of the busiest stores in the area while everyone else gets twice the number of baristas and less traffic. So my question is, does this sound like retaliation to you guys? Should i report her? Or should i just suffer through it and leave well enough alone?

It sounds like a series of unfortunate events, but not necessarily targeted. DM sounds like they werent diplomatic with their response which sucks, but then in a seperate situation yall were affected by an across the board drop in labor (me too in NY, very busy, lost significant hours). Im not saying this doesnt make either of these things right, but I dont think youll be able to come to a resolution by going the retaliation route.

My advice for developement, Ive found to get on the radar you have to initiate those conversations consistently, follow up on your progress, and always look for ways to hone your leadership skills. Theres plenty of resources on partnerhub.

My advice for labor is..... uh... stay strong? When your SM asks how youre doing, be honest. The amount of times ive been "Good, but tired. My last shift was pretty challenging. I felt like an extra hand on the floor wouldve been really helpful during (this specific daypart.)" Sometimes my SM ignored me, sometimes they would try it(3 weeks out because thats how they schedule), but in all honesty it doesnt last. At least Im getting my perspective out there.

The DM has nothing to do with the demand hours for your store.
