Do u guys ask customers if they want their loaves warmed? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by LoganEternal
Everyone at my store does but I’m just curious. I know we’re supposed to ask for choc chip cookies but I don’t think I’ve heard anything about loaves
bellamythos 161 points 6m ago
i ask for every pastry that can be warmed, but tbh i think you could justifiably only ask for the items that show up with “recommend warmed” on the POS - which doesn’t include loaves iirc
Ceramicusedbook 25 points 6m ago
It includes banana in Canada
IronKokomo 20 points 6m ago
Iirc, this is standard. Ask about “recommend warmed” pastries, assume the ones that default to warmed are warmed and assume the ones that don’t pop up anything aren’t warmed. But p much everyone I’ve seen take orders just asks for all of them
purplejanuary14 80 points 6m ago
I always ask for every pastry item because sometimes they don’t want it warmed and those are my favorite customers lol
moldygiraffes 1 points 6m ago
We even get some people that don't want the breakfast or lunch sandwiches warmed and it's the best thing.
mmms444 49 points 6m ago
I always ask for the loaves cause some are yes, others no. And I don't want to have to redo it even if it doesn't take long
electricblackjack 46 points 6m ago
I ask for every pastry, except for the ones that have any icing or frosting of any kind. (I.e. Glazed Doughnuts, Lemon Loaves, Snowman Cookies, Cranberry Bliss Bars, Lime Coconut Bars etc...)

I'm not getting a sugar burn because someone wanted their lemon loaf warmedm
itsnnotdamiann 8 points 6m ago
i do this too just bc we have customers that prefer them unwarmed sometimes, even pastries that are warm by default
nanobyte55 7 points 6m ago
What is a lime coconut bar and why is it not in my mouth?
moldygiraffes 3 points 6m ago
It's amazing but it's so small for the price. Tbh it's super sweet so the smallness of it makes sense and it's still very satisfying but I wish it was cheaper :(
drewdrop26 1 points 6m ago
I was actually mad about it for a whole week after we first got them. Like, $4 for two bites! And people would never buy them a second time. It was great when we recently depleted our supply via free samples, because people they’re actually so good 😭
iStealSharpies 1 points 6m ago
Omg it’s soooo fire yet soooooo slept on
KaoriLikesWatari 4 points 6m ago
I think you mean sooooooooooo 5 dollars a pop 🫠
godmasterchampion 5 points 6m ago
It’s amazing how quickly icing turns into napalm when put in a 600 degree oven
Comfortable-Plane944 27 points 6m ago
You definitely should- if they say yes it helps with getting more labor for you guys
Klutzy_Channel1114 1 points 6m ago
Despite what shifts try to tell us … my store manager and other shift who have been there for 10+ years have repeatedly told me that warming an item and each line on a sticker in fact DOES NOT matter when it comes to labor
Comfortable-Plane944 12 points 6m ago
That’s not true. These type of things add to labor- just like making a pour over adds to it too.
Ordinary-Theory-8289 -14 points 6m ago
Warming adds a surcharge. More sales=more hours
insertusernameplease 16 points 6m ago
Warming doesn’t cost extra…?
Ordinary-Theory-8289 1 points 6m ago
If I hit the warmed button on a pasty it adds like 15 cents to the total. Idk what to tell ya lol
Blondefudge 1 points 6m ago
warming costs extra at my store as well. it’s like 15 cents or so. same with to stay or to-go orders in the cafe i think they add on a couple more cents on to stay orders
caramelsyrupp 1 points 6m ago
are u in the us? at my store it adds a few extra cents on
laneyyrosee 22 points 6m ago
any pastry that can be warmed, i just say “would you like it warmed today?” because we get a lot of people who prefer not warmed & to me it’s the same as asking if drinks are hot or iced. i would rather get it right the first time than have to remake it :)
Hiclya 20 points 6m ago
I ask for every item that can be warmed. Just like I always ask if the drink is hot or iced. Cause it’s way easier/faster to do it correctly the first time, then have to remake it because they forgot to order it that way.
cactiloveyou 4 points 6m ago
Yep, too many times I've had a customer assume I'm a mind reader and say "that was supposed to be iced" when I go to hand it to them, after not saying anything about ice when they order.
PapaJey 14 points 6m ago
Depends. If it’s peak no I don’t ask. I do play it safe every once in a while and ask just because sometimes they receive the loaf at the window and then they ask for it to be warmed at the window, and that’ll just slow things down further. So to avoid wasting time some baristas always ask at my store, but it isn’t required.
alexkerie 8 points 6m ago
i do except for one customer, i just automatically put warmed for her bc she always responds with “if the oven is available” like we’re gonna ask if her if she wants it warmed and then say “well sorry, the oven is down”
cvpocoffee 5 points 6m ago
It honestly depends on your customers tbh. I worked at a store where the customers didn’t need to be asked, they tell you straight up if they want their items warmed. But I’ve also worked at a store where you have to walk the customers in ordering. So I guess, it depends! If they ordered a banana loaf and then they come back b/c they want it warmed then you should from now on ask to minimize the hassle.
As long as there’s a warming setting for the item, I think you should ask the customers if they would wanna.
Flowerfuls 3 points 6m ago
Nope. Most won’t want it if they don’t know it’s an option. Its annoying for warming especiall when it’s busy.
jillybrews226 3 points 6m ago
I ask for everything that can be warmed
ababab89 3 points 6m ago
i always ask when it comes to pastries 🤷🏼‍♀️ sometimes people don’t want it warmed and i want to save time in the event that they do/don’t and make sure i get it right at the box!
reclusivegiraffe 3 points 6m ago
i think the rule of thumb is to ask if it says “recommended warm”. sometimes if we aren’t busy, or i’m the one on warming, i’ll ask. but if someone else is grabbing my food for me and/or we’re busy, i don’t ask
The_realest_jules 3 points 6m ago
On the register in food items, if it says warmed, you warm it, if it says ‘recommended warm’ you ask, and if it doesn’t say either of those things you don’t have to ask, and you only warm it if the customer requests it. So loaves do not come warm or recommended warm, so you do not have to ask
kittykattt3 2 points 6m ago
Every pastry that can be warmed, you should ask :)

Edit: a word
Necessary_Low939 2 points 6m ago
Yes only not for the ones with icing. Even when they ask I said no the icing would cause a fire hazard
saratcr 2 points 6m ago
anything that automatically says warmed i don’t ask but anything that says recommended warmed i ask.
Dantheman9990 2 points 6m ago
I would ask if we are slow, during peak hours I won't just to save myself some time.

(At my store DTO has to do the ovens)
H321652976 2 points 6m ago
I don’t ask if they want it warmed or not unless I’m on POS. They are an adult and can ask if they want it warmed.
willywankaz432 2 points 6m ago
I ask unless it’s standard to be warmed. So loaves I ask unless obviously it’s the lemon loaf because it can’t be warmed lol
ad9581 2 points 6m ago
Does a Bear-ista shit in the woods?
miniinovaa 2 points 6m ago
I think technically you only need to if it says recommended warmed but I ask for anything
Sweetnsofter 2 points 6m ago
I ask for everything if they want it warmed except things that can’t go in like iced lemon loaves, I’d say if there’s a possibility it can be heated you should ask, just like you would if they came up to you with a “lunch” sandwich on the baguettes
Toomanyboringpeople 1 points 6m ago
So unless it’s changed since I was trained in it 4 years ago, you’re only required to ask for recommended warm pastries, however at my location we ask for all the loaves bc a lot of times if we don’t Customers will try and hand it back to get it warmed
Apprehensive-You5261 1 points 6m ago
At my store they said to ask if it says “recommend warm” if it doesn’t no need to ask but sometimes I do anyways. Most customers that don’t want things warm say they don’t want it warmed
rtweir98 1 points 6m ago
A good policy is to never assume anything as a Starbucks employee taking an order
drewdrop26 1 points 6m ago
I ask if they want it warmed on the banana nut & pumpkin loaves, and all the other ones that say “recommend warm.” The ones that are warmed by default, I say nothing. Like I don’t ask if they want their cheese danish warmed. But most of the pastries are better warm anyway, in my opinion
Financial_Hand3685 1 points 6m ago
I always ask, so I don't have to warm it at the window or in handoff, so it basically is a tool to save me grief from the customer who wanted it warmed bit didn't know to ask. It also cuts down on food loss, so you aren't giving the cold one away for free only to heat another one, when a simple question on our end can prevent loss of product.
El_Gabe69-420 1 points 6m ago
I worked at 2 different locations in two different cities during my time at Starbucks. Both stores always asked to warm up both Pumpkin and Banana Nut loaves, but never the lemon because the icing can burn and become a problem.
chansrightnipple 1 points 6m ago
so fun fact i just learned from my sm, when u press warmed on pos it ups our sales which adds more labor, so always press warmed if they want it warmed

PopularWave833 1 points 6m ago
I’d rather make sure than to have to waste one
moonbean37 1 points 6m ago
Yes but only because forcing communication is faster than a delay at window because an adult sized baby didn’t use their words to ask for what they desire
Midieval 1 points 6m ago
Only banana cus no icing. Only other two at my store are gingerbread and lemon loaf and I just think… I don’t wanna give anyone bad ideas
bazzyzazzy 1 points 6m ago
Yuh
Content-Tank-4357 1 points 6m ago
The only loaves I don't ask to warm up is the lemon loaf since it was icing on it. But the banana nut and pumpkin loaf I always ask if they want it warmed up.
haleslyons 1 points 6m ago
I ask for every pastry except those that are iced.
Callesandra 1 points 6m ago
For anything that ***can*** be warmed but isn't automatically I ask. So that's loaves, BB scones, muffins, cookies and brownies. If they don't want their butter croissant warmed they better tell me on their own because if it says "warmed" as soon as I hit that button I don't ask.
toapoet 1 points 6m ago
When I was being trained they never told me to ask that so I never do 😅 but no one has ever coached me on it either lol
mimitalu 1 points 6m ago
We used to, but our SM told us to stop
Garfield_Simp 1 points 6m ago
Outside of things we can’t warm like lemon loafs I do
PotatoFairy451 1 points 6m ago
I don't but some of my coworkers do.
putridfairy 1 points 6m ago
Yes always unless I'm slammed on warming and dto
Sweetnsofter 1 points 6m ago
Everytime we have to at my store
dreaminajj 1 points 6m ago
i ask for every pastry but the store i’m at during my stores renovation does not ever ask and i find it so weird!
dnims24 1 points 6m ago
I do for all the pastries (except cheese danish) bc I know I personally don’t like my pastries warmed so others probably don’t either
Sweetnsofter 1 points 6m ago
You should still ask, they could have a different preference worst things that happens they say no
majik_rose 1 points 6m ago
I ask for loaves just bc ppl get them warmed a lot
evviiieeee 0 points 6m ago
you should just be asking for every pastry that can be warmed tbh
mossygreentree13 -1 points 6m ago
I used to ask because some like it warmed some don’t, however i stopped asking especially in drive through and just have everything warmed up because it gives us extra labor resulting in more hours. If they specify that they want it not warmed, i will still leave the “warmed” option on and just let food support know not to warm it, again for labor reasons
