That sounds really bad. Don't give the customers a good reason to complain. Keep doing things to standard. I remember absolutely hating some customers but still making the right drink because getting back at someone is never worth losing my job.

It's not worth your karma, but sometimes satisfying to sit back and let a coworker do the dirty work... I wouldn't care to snitch in most cases.
PandaVike55 points6m ago
Lordy I admit we would JOKE about this but no one actually did it (well, that I know of anyway). And the rinse water? No bueno.
Like someone else said, why give people reason to complain. Plenty of complaints out there already.
Ceramicusedbook23 points6m ago
The quicker you make their drink right, the quicker you can get them out of your hair.
PandaVike3 points6m ago
For real.

The worst I think I’ve ever done is purposely picking the smallest lemon loaf for someone who is being rude, they still get it but they’re getting the tiniest one on the tray.
ETA- to any customers reading this, if you get a small loaf it doesn’t mean you were rude, there are definitely times that it’s unavoidable

Oh yeah I usually save the small ones for when I absolutely have to give them because that’s all that we have left, but if someone’s being petty I’ll give a smaller one. I also try not to give a small one if they have more than one loaf in their order but sometimes it’s unavoidable. But overall, I haven’t and don’t think I could ever knowingly mess up someone’s drink/order.
kurokittie3 points6m ago
Same 😭 or giving them the sugar plum danishes with less “sugar plum” jelly on them lol
badatlife151 points6m ago
Yep and the opposite is true too, had one of my favorite customers come through and order a sugar plum danish so i gave her the one I could find with the most sugar plum jelly on it.
Brgnbo27 points6m ago
I’ve definitely given less pumps to a mean customer before and decafing only crosses my mind after a REALLY bad customer interaction but I’ve never done it. But RINSE WATER THATS SO BAD WTF
CLEf1121 points6m ago
Rinse water? That's hard-core. I've heard of decaffing drinks for obnoxious and rude people but that takes it too far.
nicolelynnejones14 points6m ago
Food safety is no joke.
clouds1832 points6m ago
I do believe the rinse water is food safe, is it not? its just water and left over espresso
pinkingtion14 points6m ago
i couldnt imagine messing with someones food/drink like that. your coworkers some kinda special apathetic. 😬
StormTheParade12 points6m ago
The more y'all brag on social media about decaffing and fucking with drinks, the less customers are going to trust you.
The less they trust you, the more aggressive they'll be because they will see you as spiteful and malicious. Customers will see legitimate mistakes as attempts to ruin their drink.
And honestly, you have no idea what you could do by fucking with someone's drink. I've seen people on here bragging about replacing milks, syrups, espresso, etc purely out of spite. The thought of someone receiving a rinse water latte is appalling...

Lmao what the fuck? I get maybe joking around about doing the decaf thing..but rinse water? Tell your SSV or SM. That’s not okay at all. Get a new fucking job, what a miserable person.

I have only ever decaffed people who have sworn at us. If their pissy or rude, they still get their drink made correctly, but if they escalate it, they lose out on caffeine for the day.
Outrageous_Sorbet_724 points6m ago
i’ve heard of people giving out decaf to assholes but no one at our store ever has. but rinse water????? that’s absolutely disgusting
Dopio_Depresso4 points6m ago
No, this isn't normal, and it's just shifting the problem of difficult customers to the other stores remaking those drinks.
Mistakes happen, but what you're describing is malicious non-compliance with starbucks standards. Does the district manager even go to your store, or are they on their 12th vacation of the year and just can't find the time? If the behavior is as bad as you have described, it should have been noticed by management unless they're asleep at the wheel.
Sorry for the rant, I'm mad.
Mulberry4904 points6m ago
If someone is rude on the drive thru call they will be getting decaf
foxfenelle3 points6m ago
I think at my store I've only seen a barista decaf once. If someone is being an absolute asshole/it's like their 3rd remake I can see decaf. Rinse water? That's pathetic
jjd_yo3 points6m ago
Yeah…no. More problems for yourself, not how you should be approaching bad customers.
(Okay, maybe decaffing; Rinse water though? That’s fucked.)
Muted_Obligation45011 points6m ago
No because some people need to calm tf down
Muted_Obligation45012 points6m ago
Specifically on the decaf would never give rinse water
youjustgottaignite1 points6m ago
the worst I’ve done is decaf, and sometimes extra hot 😂
