Sick of these labor cuts (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by dinoquok
Was scheduled an open during a snowstorm, forced me to come to work, then sent me home 3 hours early after the storm got even worse. Are you kidding? Glad I get to go home but also i cannot afford to play my bills lol .

You're not the only one it's become such a big problem my store that closing is constantly getting overwhelmed and we're getting out 30 minutes to an hour late on average now and I because cuz I work 4 days a week with closing I feel it harder than most people in the store do. Then just to top it all off we have opening constantly having issues and saying we're not doing our job because we simply don't have enough people to do our job.

As an opener, it’s unfair to you that you get flack for bad closes. My fellow openers at my store completely understand the struggle of closing lately. No staff to help out at all makes it overall bad for the whole store. I’m sorry. You’re doing your best!!!

It’s going to get even worse in January/Feb when things really slow down 😓

start looking for other jobs - this isn’t gonna get any better by sticking around

i agree with you 100% just an FYI you don’t have to go home if you are scheduled for a longer shift and they want to cut labor. If you’re scheduled, no one can make you go home you can say no i need my hours. unless they’re closing the store ofc.

I think in my state, they are allowed to send us home and we aren’t protected? I’ve flat out denied and they tried to argue with me and my SSV as the time. Ended up being forced to go home early anyways. And today they were being pretty rude about it :/

oh damn i’m sorry i didn’t know that:/ all of my stores have been in CA i know that labor laws are a lot different out here

Please look into it, your state might have language about it on their labor board website. Because I’m my state they legally can’t send you home involuntarily.

Just looked into it and unfortunately yeah, they can send me home against my will in my state :(
