this is kind of a question but first im going to offer a prime example because of an interaction i had;;
my store has a regular customer who has always tipped in cash wether paying card or otherwise. now that we have card reader buttons, i assumed we were showing it to him because it’s policy (i hadn’t seen him with a card before this since the update was installed). so i leaned out the window and offered him the screen, prompted to answer the question and then insert his card, and he looked at me with the most baffled expression. as if i had personally offended him. he huffed and said “i don’t know how to work that!” and shoved his card past it into my face. like-okay man he’s never been this rude before, it actually upset me,, i pressed no thank you and carried out the transaction and made sure to give him his receipt. as always he handed me a dollar bill and thanked me for his drink. so weird.
my question is, if you have regulars who don’t bother with the card reader, do you still try to offer it over and over? I’d rather spare myself from getting yelled at and risking a tip by asking for one..

I haven't touched a card since covid started, cc tipping hasn't been a problem.

Oh yeah. We have this one regular who still doesn't get how the credit card tipping works.

i usually take their card, put it in, then offer it and say "it's gonna ask if you want to put a tip or not"

if it's a regular who expresses they don't want that once or twice then i probably wouldn't after that

Our store fortunately has very polite regulars. However, with everyone else, I’m stubborn. I’ll usually hand it to them right away and say “Your total is ____. I’m going to hand this to you.” (Or vice versa lol) but if they’re insistent, I just repeat “Unfortunately, it’s a new policy, as we now have credit card tipping, and I am not allowed to insert the card for you.” until they take the reader and do it themselves 😆
