Can I get heard about a bad SM? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Life_deep_
we recently got a new SM who’s worked for sbux less than i have, and i’ve been here about a year and a half. he completely ruined the culture of our store and messed up hours for everyone, staffing us horribly. we have a shift who is qualified, willing, and trying to get promoted to SM of that store over the one we have now. is there anyway i can as a barista help make this happen?

I’m afraid that’s way above your pay grade

You can always reach out to your DM to voice concerns, but I'd try to talk to your SM about it first if you feel comfortable doing so. Starbucks has an anti-retaliation policy in the event the SM gets upset and cuts your hours, etc., but realistically it's hard to prove retaliation.
But if you have a terrible SM, I also wouldn't be surprised if your DM sucks, too.

ya, my DM isn’t really on our side. She’s been pushing for even more labor cuts and now the SM has cut so much, to the point we haven’t had cleanplays in so long new hires don’t know what they are, the store is dirty and understaffed and baristas are either underworked or overworked. Only a select few get hours, and they get insane amounts of hours they don’t want while others don’t get any. I transferred for school and it’s a much better environment so i know the problem is this store. i know it’s just a job, but i hate seeing friends suffer

They can apply if there's a posting. Unless the sm is doing something against sbux ethics, maybe just let them know how you're feeling? Clear is kind.

ya i’m mostly wondering if i can voice my concerns about the recent culture change with the takeover of the new sm. i just don’t know how to do that without putting my job in jeopardy or letting the sm know i dislike his methods

I've gone above SM to DM and didn't face any retaliation. It actually benefited our team as the SM was held accountable for their actions and the DM coached them on better scheduling. I went above their head because they were the type of person who acted too busy to listen to anyone any of the time even though they were the laziest partner ever

Just ask to speak with them. Hey, can we talk? I'd like to let you know how I'm feeling. This is how things feel for me, etc. This is how I feel things could be better/improve morale, etc. These things have changed... just be respectful and have an open conversation. Maybe he doesn't realize it. Idk. I don't think anyone tries to show up to work and piss on everyone.
