Tips on Christmas? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Stunning-Classic-711
Do you add the Christmas tips in with the rest of the weekly tips? My sm said that’s the way to do it, because the people who worked will get the money from the extra hours they worked in the end anyway. But i thought it would bring the ¢/hr avg up, and would be inaccurate.

christmas is the only holiday as of current where tips get distributed across the people who worked that day since it is completely voluntary. you should not be adding christmas tips into the rest of the weekly ones. talk to your dm/rm if your sm insists otherwise.
Jaded_Fun_7133 35 points 6m ago
Our tips got split up for only the people who worked thanksgiving
clouds183 9 points 6m ago
yeah some sm’s aren’t up to date on it yet since they change the policy a few years ago with no communication on it (typical sbux corporate with not telling anyone shit)
bellamythos 6 points 6m ago
it’s corporate policy to do it only for christmas, but lots of stores will also do it for other holidays - that’s up to the SM/DM
vegan-trash 8 points 6m ago
Christmas is voluntary? What happens if nobody signs up?
clouds183 24 points 6m ago
the store is closed
vegan-trash 7 points 6m ago
I was aware of this before I left Starbucks, and after coming back I haven’t heard anything of it. I have had a suspicion that management doesn’t tell us this anymore to get the minimum sign ups
hantnah 3 points 6m ago
If your store is historically open on Christmas, the DM pushes the SM to keep it open for consistency.
g_pvp_3 3 points 6m ago
christmas tips are only for the people who worked on christmas, that’s the good part. we got good tips 😌
Electrical_Metal_106 1 points 6m ago
Christmas wasn’t voluntary at my store this year. Our SM said that didn’t apply this year. But, the Christmas tips are still split for Christmas workers only.
ayepapi_ 1 points 6m ago
That actually changed for my district last year even though all the sms fought it. Soooo upsetting. Now they get split with everyone even if they didn't work
HappyBarista 24 points 6m ago
Unless something just changed this year, it has always been corporate policy that the tips that come in on Christmas Day are only split between the people who work on Christmas Day.
Every other day including all the other holidays are pooled together like every week.
dfarner -14 points 6m ago
It’s not corporate policy at all it’s just that most stores do it so it seems that way. As someone else aid, it’s up to the sm.
clouds183 13 points 6m ago
it is corporate policy for christmas day.
anolamadie -3 points 6m ago
Source?
Accurate-Bumblebee14 -12 points 6m ago
It is not "corporate policy." It IS a best practice that has been observed for as long as I've been a partner (9+ years). Store managers are not eligible for tips and have zero say in how they are distributed. It is up to the partners.
dfarner -12 points 6m ago
I guarantee you it’s not
Stunning-Classic-711 [OP] 21 points 6m ago
Would you do tips for mon-sat and then Sunday by itself?
violentfemme17 9 points 6m ago
Correct
IndustrySerious 8 points 6m ago
Our shift handed us our Christmas tips today after we closed!
verdeuce 1 points 6m ago
….how?
wolfydoe 7 points 6m ago
My store does it separately. Only those who worked on major holidays like Thanksgiving or Christmas get the tips. It's not split with the whole store
Purple_Coffee653 6 points 6m ago
Maybe they meant you won't get them until the other weekly tips are ready for pickup instead of saying they're going to pool it all together and give everyone a cut even those who didn't work that day.
neighborrcat 5 points 6m ago
does anyone know if this includes digital and card tips? or is it only cash that’s split among christmas day workers?
RosieHarlan 6 points 6m ago
Digital and credit card tips are split daily. Not just on Christmas but everyday.
riccum 3 points 6m ago
Marking this cuz so many of our customers tipped with card today, and I honestly feel like it’s unfair to the ones that went through the short staff on a holiday if it’s polled together
RosieHarlan 7 points 6m ago
Digital and credit card tips are split daily. Not just on Christmas but everyday.
riccum 1 points 6m ago
Oh! I didn’t know that. Thank you!
makmelaf17 2 points 6m ago
Not fair for those who didn't come in on that special day to also benefit.... separate them.... don't get done dirty
makmelaf17 2 points 6m ago
Nah u separate them ur sm if off on this 1
haleslyons 2 points 6m ago
Noooo. No no no. Tips are split the day of, any tips accumulated on Christmas Day will be distributed only to those who worked on Christmas Day.

reading all these comments, yall lucky. got scheduled 5/5 holidays this year, no volunteering here
Stunning-Classic-711 [OP] 1 points 6m ago
My sm said that the extra hours are going to be on the tip report. Like because they were voluntary hours were going to have more hours for the week. Included in the tips
verdeuce 1 points 6m ago
This isn’t correct
Awittynamegoeshere 1 points 6m ago
When I still worked for Bux, it was the people who worked the day that got the tips. Christmas day was volunteer staffed (nobody was forced to work) and tips were usually much higher than single day tips any other day, so if you were willing to give up some of your Christmas day, you got rewarded with fat tips.

Not sure if it's a corporate policy, but it was definitely a district wide policy.
idkcassie -3 points 6m ago
this is a by store discretionary decision i believe. some stores split christmas tips between who worked that day, but others don’t.
postmal0n3 -1 points 6m ago
we split cash tips daily lol
verdeuce 1 points 6m ago
How?
postmal0n3 1 points 6m ago
We dont have cc tips or mobile only cash
