this may vary depending on your store, but this is what opening looks like for me (as specifically an opener). we open with three people: two baristas and a shift. one barista has the task of brewing coffee, tea, and setting up espresso machines. the other has the task of setting up sanitizer, getting ice, and setting up the pastry case.
when i walk in depending on who i open with, i touch base with the other barista and ask if they have a preference on what they do. if they do, i let them do what task set they want and i do the other.
when you brew and do the bars, you normally don’t have any time to do much else, but when you’re the other task set, you have have time at the end before opening, so check fridges to make sure they’re stocked, make sure you don’t need to make any backups, stock cups, stock lids, make sure things are marked in/out depending on supply, etc.
good luck!!!
