The second he started swearing, i would’ve given him his money back and sent him on his way empty-handed.
You don’t have to put up with that

my SM took over because he told me that it was not okay at all for him to speak to me like that especially because i handled it well, but had i got to him first he would’ve left empty handed and with a bruised ego. 😂

have your sm print off the decision tree for large bills on the partner hub. it helps avoid all issues with this. the tldr of it is policy is to give them the free drink if we don’t have enough change in the drawer or any other drawer in the store or they don’t want 1’s and 5’s as their change.

This is the answer. Trust me, I hate helping people when they’re rude, but it’s not the customer’s fault we don’t have change. Just give them the drink for free.

i was going to give him change and i’ve done it in the past. the issue was that when we were checking his bill and began counting the change, he decided to call my SM a slur and drove off. i’ve done rnr in the past when they have no other payment form, but i was told never to accept large bills. 😭

he’s definitely not at fault for the $50, but i was trying to help with the knowledge that i knew— which at the time was that we are not supposed to accept them.

we ended up having change for the 50, but he then went and called me a b*tch and my SM the f slur before saying he didn’t want it anymore. i told my SM he should print off the paper, but with the snow and rain we have gotten, it wouldn’t have held up. i’m going to talk to him tomorrow because this experience was awful, thank you! 🥰

btw I’m not talking about printing off a paper for customers to see saying we can’t accept large bills. I’m talking about the decision tree from the partner hub that is for partners to use. it at no point says to turn the customer away or to not give them their drinks.

oh i didn’t know this! thank you. my SM and shifts have told me since training i’m not allowed to accept larger bills because we never have enough change. we were going to accept his bill before he drove us and began using slurs. i did what i was taught in training, but like i said, i’m going to follow up with some shifts and my SM since i’m hearing conflicting things! i understand his frustration, but him using slurs and cussing at us just was uncalled for, especially because i was doing what i was taught.

(i took a $50 once and was told by my coworkers, shift, and SM not to do it again, so i’ll definitely check up, thank you again 😁)

yeah I get that its annoying to have to take them but it is policy and its in place to avoid all of these issues and to avoid getting yelled at. if your sm can’t find it on partner hub ask your dm to find it and talk to everyone about it. I was also trained to not accept large bills but then an incident occurred similar to yours and my dm sent everyone the decision tree so we can know what to do next time.

technically as long as it is valid us currency we can’t turn someone away for trying to pay with it just because we don’t have change. it says to use a rnr on it if all else fails.
