Unfortunately, a partner’s availability isn’t the only thing managers consider when making the schedule. They also think about business needs and partner performance (ie it isn’t ideal to have new partners on the floor during peak). I am sure most managers try to stick to partner availability when they can.

Depending on how it was worded in conversation, I could see how they may have just thought you didn’t want to close because it was too late for new job balance and not because you don’t want to close bc of closing tasks as well as it being late now.
JJ_Pause 2 points 6m ago
.. you said you have another full time job during the day and don't wanna be there late. What shifts do you expect them to schedule you?

I tried to change my availability to where I got out at exactly 8:00 and it was denied.

mine looks the same right now ://

i thought them cutting my hours to 6.5 and only working 4 days a week was bad omg
taurusinthesun 1 points 6m ago
i have baby shifts this week too. i ask for at least 30, and i have 19.75. apparently since the store hasn't been making as much money as they did last year, that's why hours are cut.

plus, it's after the holidays.

I could never work for these people, because how do you schedule your life? Seriously...

I’ve been at Starbucks for about a year and 3 months and up until 2 months ago I was one of the main closers. I let my manager know that with me starting another job I couldn’t be in the store past 9:30 and also, I just didn’t want to close anymore. The shit is stressful and annoying. I just became aware that starting next year our store is going to be closing at 8, now I’m looking at my schedule wondering if these are closing shifts 🤔 I told them I no longer wanted to be a closer. Am I wrong for feeling like they should’ve come to me and let me know that since the store would be closing an hour early I might want to adjust my availability so I don’t get stuck closing?

I should’ve mentioned this already but for everyone saying to just change my availability, that was obviously the first thing I did and it immediately got denied 😒 soooo yeah….

You told them you can't be in store past 9:30. 30 min past closing is normal time to stay and rarely have i ever had to stay longer unless we did clean play that day. With that being said, your SM goes off your availability which i assume they are following. At this point if you are not happy, you need to change it.

i consistently stay 45 min after close, and everyone at my store also stays 45 min after lol the only time i have ever left earlier was when our store was super dead and we straight up closed most of cold bar like 15 minutes before the store closed lmfao
Artsybbb -1 points 6m ago
At my store, getting out exactly 30 minutes after closing is a huge rarity. Also I work full time somewhere else where I’m waking up at 4am so the earlier I can get out of there, the better!
looker009 5 points 6m ago
While you're closing, maybe see if you can find a way to get out earlier. Can you start doing closing tasks earlier? The best course of action is to change your availability. Just remember you need to have a minimum of 18 hours a week and work a minimum of 12 hours a week.
reclusivegiraffe 11 points 6m ago
did you casually mention that you don’t want to close, or was this a serious conversation? they may not have remembered that you told them that, or may have not had other options and needed to schedule you *within your availability*. if you knew the store would be changing hours, you should have adjusted your availability. your manager has too much on their plate to remember every partner’s preferences.

i understand you don’t want to close, but this is a huge overreaction.
Artsybbb -22 points 6m ago
If you read again you will see where it says “I just became aware” meaning I learned that our hours were changing after the schedule had already dropped. Thank you
looker009 11 points 6m ago
SM job is to run the store. They don't have the time nor the energy to remember each partner preference. For that reason there is availability schedule. Yes it sucks that you will be closing again but your best course of action is to submit your new availability ASAP.
marigshu 9 points 6m ago
I can’t believe you’re complaining about 4 1/2 hour shifts AND your store is closing by 8pm lmao
lewabwee 4 points 6m ago
You are in the wrong. It would have been nice if your sm remembered not to have you close but they’re working with your availability. Even if they remembered you preferred not to close they’re in their rights to schedule you within your availability. I’m not saying it doesn’t suck but managers are people too. Without knowing anything else I can’t say you should expect your manager to ask if you want to change your availability.

As far as it getting denied you just gotta ask why. Might be a real reason. Might be bullshit.
