agreed: i’m a night shift and we are never given enough coverage to complete tasks in time. we have enough people for the floor, most of the time, but a lot of tasks (like floors) have to be half-assed because we are just so busy and don’t have enough coverage. and we cannot turn off mobiles or close the cafe when it gets like that. i feel like there’s a lack of understanding/empathy from morning crew/our manager because they don’t realize how crazy it can get, they just look at the numbers. and somehow morning crew always has more people than they need and still don’t set it up properly for the handoff. it is very stressful.

yeah :/ i’m an opening shift but my sm apparently has no idea how to schedule for the holidays and we’re having really late peaks but scheduled for the regular 7-9. so everyone is leaving at 10-11 which is midway through peak, then the pull has to start at 10, and everyone has a 30. so we end up running like 5 partner peaks, too busy to do a good cs round to prep the transition and i’m scrambling doing the work of 3 people for the last couple hours of my shift. i’m so burnt out and everything i say to my sm is ignored. and i know nights are terrible too, every time i transition it goes down to like 3-4 partners with volume comparable to peak. what a terrible way to start the day 🙃

Before I quit this was my last fav thing about working nights. We get all the clean up work without any recognition and the morning crew get favouritism. It sucked being such dedicated closers to never get anything out of it. Rushes ten minutes before close that completely get rid of any prepared tasks, leaving hours later than scheduled, and being told off for taking extra time because “it fucks with labour” like are you kidding? I do not miss it at all.

EXACTLY. we are right next to an arcade that’s open late so we always get big rushes of families RIGHT before close and it ruins our whole system of getting things done. at that point we’re down to 3, sometimes 2 partners. it’s hell. and it’s so hard staying happy and positive when that happens.
i agree, cleaning the store is so therapeutic. but all the hard work is ruined by peak the next day and there is no recognition given to us. it’s very draining.

Mine was right next to a common place for rock concerts and amusement park stuff so I totally feel that

Sounds like we work at the same store.
