Calling out guilt🙃 (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by kjoy99
Just here to say I’m feeling really guilty about calling out even though I’m sick but I feel like they’re mad at me and I’m gonna get in trouble when I go back. Anyone else ever feel like this 😂

Anyone who gets mad at you for calling out sick is either an asshole or not using their brain. It's so much better to be down a person for a few shifts than have them get half the store sick.

My store had a covid outbreak a while back and even though only about a quarter of us were sick at a time it was a nightmare.

Yeah we have a Covid out break too, I don’t have Covid. I just feel like everyone hates me and I’ll get fired

i know how you feel. i’ve been hit with the most awful flu and haven’t been able to work for the past 4 days, and it’s looking like the next 4 days too. this morning it was just 2 partners until 12. i feel bad but also keep in mind WE ARE SICK. LEGITIMATELY. taking time to recover/making sure we don’t infect others is the best thing we can do rn. feel better❤️‍🩹

Yeah true. I’ve been hit so much this winter with literally every cold, flu, virus that comes through our store and have called out one or two days each time, or I go in to help open and then leave after there’s more people there. I just feel like they get annoyed and maybe don’t believe me :/

literally i’m always scared that the shift is gonna be mad even though they can’t even say anything

It’s your responsibility to make sure you take care of yourself and to make sure you’re not spreading viruses. It’s the company’s responsibility to make sure that stores are staffed (and it’s not like people being sick this time of year is something that couldn’t be planned for). You’re doing your part, don’t feel guilty that the company isn’t doing theirs.

just had to call in a few hours ago because I'm sick and I totally get you, you just gotta remember that being sick wasn't a choice and it's better for everyone that you don't go into work

I feel like this any time I'm sick or injured. And at my particular store, I don't know why. Everyone is kind, our old sm (haven't been sick in a while) was nice. Nobody guilt tripped me, except myself.

Yeah that's how managers guilt you into thinking the store is 100 percent your responsibility to run for minimum wage while also conveniently establishing a scapegoat for themselves to blame when they are questioned about their own ineptitude. You don't own the store and I doubt you live to work. It's not your fault they are bad managers... Also do YOU want a sick barista making your coffee? I don't. Stay home and fuck that guilt because it's intentional on their part.

i can relate, here recently my seizures have been hindering my ability to work. one time i called out and my SM was very upset, i decided id still go and work through it bc the guilt was eating me alive.
