What are these things? I'm not a barista, I'm a Hobart tech, and I find them all the time in the LX's.(i.redd.it)

Gasket for the whip cream canister lids. They disappear all the time, not surprised they’re hiding in the Hobart lol
eaglekineagle [OP]107 points6m ago
Dude for real I find them constantly
PointEither267327 points6m ago
The funny thing is that when you dont have this and try to load the whip is that it makes a loud ass noise letting all the air out and everytime i go like " Where DA FUCK did the gasket go " because when i put them in the sanitizer i swear theyre there. This ex\[plains everything.
pinkjortz259 points6m ago
Lmao they’re for the whipped cream canisters
thatactorjoe184 points6m ago
lmao, there are probably a lot of baristas covered in heavy cream b/c of these rings being stuck in that machine 😂
O-Rings for the whipped cream canisters; without them, when the CO2 chargers are used on the canister the cream just sprays everywhere...it's a Starbucks rite-of-passage
mstuver1560 points6m ago
The amount of times I’ve had a green bean get trained three times before they make whips solo and STILL freezer burn their hands is honestly awful…..I am of course referring to myself
thatactorjoe28 points6m ago
Haha, I always tell green beans it only needs to happen to them once, and it'll never happen again...and then I do it myself lmao. Those things are devious, especially when you have the o-ring in and it still doesn't work b/c they're old and worn out
insanityizgood132 points6m ago
Our canisters aren't round anymore & have dents at the top so the gasket doesn't seal properly. It's a major pain in the ass trying to get them to work.
Rough-Tie-30841 points6m ago
I think your SM has to order them, but getting new whip canisters is like Christmas.
silver_fang12320 points6m ago
Wait wait i’ve worked here for almost two years and have never heard of someone freezer burning their hand?? How does that happen? 0.o
mstuver155 points6m ago
When you don’t have the gasket sealed properly, it SPRAYS a combo of chilled HWC and HYPER Pressurized CO2, which is around -79 C and -109 F. If your hand is where the lid screws on or anywhere near it, it will almost instantly burn your skin. My most recent example, a trans man with HUGE golden retriever energy had just forgotten to put the canister on the lid and twisted the charger onto the lid and their entire palm turned a SUPER deep red and swelled up like 3x the size. Super scary and he was in shock so bad he said it didn’t even hurt until it blistered a few hours later. Scary Busey up in this MF
biggbuttslutt29 points6m ago
Why do you have to specify they are trans? Can’t you just call them a man?
silver_fang1234 points6m ago
Holy shit, i’ll definitely be a lot more careful. I don’t know how me and my store have managed to avoid it this far. I guess we’ll just say dumb luck haha
mstuver153 points6m ago
Didn’t even cross my mind that that was not necessary information. The guy always was super proud of his identity as a Trans individual but it was not necessary for this story you’re absolutely right
Rough-Tie-30841 points6m ago
I’ve never seen them spray the HWC itself out, just the CO2, are y’all’s canisters like bent or something? Or have I just gotten super lucky that there’s never been any HWC spraying out when I forgot the gasket? I 100% believe you I’m just astounded I’ve never encountered this. I also 100% believe there’s stores whose management refused to order new ones even tho they are bent etc.
Jfostr01 points6m ago
I’ve read this a few times and I’m still confused. He forgot the CANISTER? Why would you charge just a lid? 🤔
Shoddy-Trainer-805115 points6m ago
I once froze my left ring finger so bad it burnt and was kinda useless all peak/day so that was fun 👍🏻
Affectionate-Raise214 points6m ago
see i simply had experienced whippits many times before working at bux so i knew how to crack them😅
mstuver15-8 points6m ago
Well at least you got something out of your self-inflicted brain damage :)
Affectionate-Raise213 points6m ago
you mean from a routinely prescribed analgesic? and other rec drugs r expensive considering i got chargers for free from BOH at my shitty job LMFAOO idk but y’all be making $15+ hourly but when i was there u were lucky if u started over fed min wage so yea i would do anything to make my shifts worth my time when i would work 4am-1pm 6 days a week😭😭
chainsofgold2 points6m ago
i’ve never forgot the o ring but i had a whip explode on me anyways 😭 all over front reg too
Rough-Tie-30841 points6m ago
Curious where y’all put your hands on the canisters that lead to freezer burn, purely cuz I’ve never experienced it but I can totally see that happening. I’m now desperately trying to figure out how I’ve never managed it cuz I’m kinda accident prone. Like I can’t even consciously tell you where I put my hands on the canisters now lol.
DiabolicWizard9 points6m ago
I can proudly say that I have never forgotten the o-ring when I made whips. Now have I still been sprayed by other partners yes lol
Chromosomes232 points6m ago
I had a newer partner have the gasket in and everything. I had to stop peak to wipe down the cafe and everything behind the line. Looked like a whip cream bomb went off.
Muted_Obligation45015 points6m ago
Bro I’ll teach whips tell them to make sure the gasket is in each top and they’ll still miss it, when I hear the god awful sizzle I ask if they checked they always say they do… and guess what there’s never a gasket
skylikeslemonade6 points6m ago
i made a whip once and there was an o ring in there!! it still sprayed me :) so now i have so much anxiety about whips and i double check the rings and press them in so hard cause i’m so scared it’s gonna backfire and my shift is gonna think i’m incompetent
Muted_Obligation45015 points6m ago
It happens to the best of us! Sometimes I’ve had two rings sneak in there and cause some weird things to happen (aka it just wasn’t charging and hissing at me) or they can break unknowingly too
IAMACHRISTMASWIZARD47 points6m ago
lmaoo hobarts eat whip gaskets like washers eat socks
eaglekineagle [OP]9 points6m ago
One time I found 8 under the filter screen
Jadenvicious13 points6m ago
This is so funny to me.
Jew_33 points6m ago
Okay, that’s way too many to find. Finding 1 in a machine routinely, understandable. Finding 8 in a single machine is absurd.
testingaurora3 points6m ago
I think it’s dryers, the socks are there until it goes in the dryer and it’s a mystery bc there’s nowhere for it to have disappeared to, unlike a washer that could get it sucked down the drain
Chromosomes232 points6m ago
Check your front panel inside you’ll find a bunch of socks
testingaurora1 points6m ago
Front panel of washer or dryer?
eaglekineagle [OP]3 points6m ago
If you're clothes washer has a lid on the top, tilt it up a little bit and underneath you'll find whatever got launched out of the tub during a cycle.
Chromosomes231 points6m ago
Dryer look at a YouTube video on it
reclusivegiraffe32 points6m ago
They’re not supposed to go through the hobart lol
Formal-Ad286310 points6m ago
so glad another partner actually knows this because NO ONE at my store does apparently. i have to fish these out of the lil gutter in the hobart with the tongs!
reclusivegiraffe3 points6m ago
me too. people just be putting whole whip lids in there (which doesn’t clean them) and the gaskets always end up down there
imnotcalmable1 points6m ago
Do you take the lid apart before putting it in the Hobart?
reclusivegiraffe1 points6m ago
i don’t put it in the hobart at all. hot soapy water
0x52and1x529 points6m ago
Yes they are lmfao. I don’t know how this myth got started but all of our equipment is dishwasher safe. Check the SCEMM if you’re ever unsure.
FlippinAsian2 points6m ago
How about all pieces of a drizzle bottle? We were told not to put them in the Hobart as it will cause the bottles to “leak.” I don’t think that’s true though, and they just wear out after a period of time.
dazedandconfusedhere2 points6m ago
SCEMM says drizzle bottles are Hobart safe
reclusivegiraffe1 points6m ago
all of our 2L pitchers break if we run them through hobart repeatedly. the plastic is just too brittle. idc what SCEMM says when the truth is obviously different.
the reason i say that about the whip gaskets is because people are obviously putting the whole whip lid in there — which means they’re not actually getting cleaned. they need to soak in hot soap water
toapoet2 points6m ago
Oh I didn’t know that!! Good to know, thank you.
LambCHOP698819 points6m ago
Woe be unto those who faileth to check thyne lid 'fore thou twisteth thy charger.
Imatallguy8 points6m ago
One way to end up with a white Christmas.
catgirlmunist12 points6m ago
As others have said, they're whip canister gaskets. They're also not supposed to go through the hobart. I believe the heat makes them wear out faster.
Mariiriini13 points6m ago
There's two kinds of hobarts. One is high heat and one is primarily chemical sanitation. High heat supposedly isn't good for some pieces.
We don't get "handwash items only" labor though, and I don't notice the difference so... Haven't seen whip gaskets or caramel bottles wear out over the course of a year at one store.
eaglekineagle [OP]2 points6m ago
You have done your homework!
catgirlmunist2 points6m ago
My store has a high heat hobart, good to know there's a chemical type too.
I've seen a few whip gaskets develop slow leaks in my 7 months here. I can't know for sure that the hobart is the reason but I was trained not to put them in the hobart so I don't. And as far as I know I'm the only person at my store who doesn't.
I haven't heard anything about caramel bottles being hand wash only.
FlippinAsian1 points6m ago
How can you tell which Hobart you have in your store?
MasterMischievous10 points6m ago
Recommend to the stores to get these little mesh bags. They’re Hobart safe that keeps everything from floating around. I got a new manager like 3 months ago and she brought them with her, and now we don’t lose our whip pieces, they’re great! To be more specific tell them to special order item #11097586. To anybody reading this, give this number to a ssv or your manager and tell them to order you 1-2, they’re extremely handy.
nezaket2 points6m ago
BOOKMARKED!
MasterMischievous1 points6m ago
Yay!
misaruwu6 points6m ago
Before reading the second sentence I flipped out because I couldn’t help but wonder “how have you been making whipped cream all this time???”
Formal-Ad28636 points6m ago
y’all these should be REMOVED before you put the lids in the washer
imnotcalmable1 points6m ago
Do you take the rest of the lid apart?
Formal-Ad28631 points6m ago
i personally don’t but i’ve never been if they should be or not. we do switch the tip out often though
dazedandconfusedhere1 points6m ago
They should be taken apart every wash
Suspicious-Fuel88135 points6m ago
Hobarts favorite snacks are whip gaskets
nonogender4 points6m ago
do baristas a favor and throw them in the sink when u find them haha
eaglekineagle [OP]4 points6m ago
I usually do
Persnickety-sass10154 points6m ago
They’re the gaskets to the whipped cream containers.
Foreign_Service31023 points6m ago
Rip
rterrebo3 points6m ago
Seals for the whip cream chargers.
sero50743 points6m ago
HAHAHAHA
Revolutionary_Heat773 points6m ago
someone on bar is not going to have a good time is all i can say
Brilliant_List73813 points6m ago
For whip cream canisters!
Lizardkween_2 points6m ago
It’s for the whip cream canisters
Lcolecrochet2 points6m ago
Whip lid gaskets! Slippery fuckers always getting lost xD
Zealousideal-Star4482 points6m ago
They help keep the water/ air tight seal on our whip creams. They fall out and get lost all the time.
board-certified2 points6m ago
There are mesh bags you can purchase in IMS for small dish pieces like this that fall into the strainer during the cycle.
Shmerpism1 points6m ago
The water jets kinda fling them everywhere and getting them out of that hot ass water is a trap
darkwolf5231 points6m ago
A dirty ass whipped cream ⭕️
misslyss2311 points6m ago
Also if you find a bunch of tiny blue-ish gaskets or small metal washers those go to our syrup pumps and are also often eaten by the Hobart. We can get blue mesh bags to put them in so they don’t get lost in the machine but no one ever bothers because it’s faster just to toss them in and fish them out I guess. 🤷🏼♀️
governor_phillpblake1 points6m ago
I’m always digging those out the Hobart at multiple stores I’ve worked at
linseeded1 points6m ago
LOL gasket for whip cream containers.
kaefeen0 points6m ago
you should tell the partners to stop putting them in the hobart lmao
