Dealing with cliquey colleagues (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by antipinballmachines
Does this annoy anyone else?

There's a select few of my colleagues (mostly SUPERVISORS would you believe) who constantly go in the back and laugh/talk amongst themselves, when the number one priority is customers. They know this because whenever I go out the back to empty the dishwasher/get ice/whatever they tell me to come back out front. Oh the hypocrisy.

It happened the other day when they were out there for like an hour leaving myself and one other supervisor (not part of their little clique) out the front doing literally everything. They should be out there helping.

There's one in particular (not a supervisor) who grinds my gears, she's out there yapping constantly, basically never shuts up. I've never liked her period. Various reasons. She's the worst culprit, and it's even worse when they're all together. They've formed their own little group and made it obvious that not everyone is in it. They even try to make our manager 0art of their group sometimes.

Any advice on what I should do?

I have an SSV who literally takes their ten moments after clocking in. Or some of my coworkers and I joke and call it her “20” or for however long she’s gone. Its extremely ironic considering she’s the type to follow all the rules and do everything fast. It’s not fair to us.
A lot of us don’t really like her.

We have the same problem at my store! I even thought this could be about my store for a second bc it’s exactly the same here. It’s gotten so bad, there is a friend group that had a fight and now refuse to work with each other any more, and so on. Last night closing I was scheduled with their whole friend group and nobody really talked to me at all, I just did most of the closing tasks while everyone else talked in the back. It’s truly awful, but not the worst thing going on at my store.

my manager used to speak japanese with a coworker and use your name really loudly in front of you. they were clearly talking shit. that coworker ended up quitting cuz of the manger. now she’ll just tell whoever to babysit whoever else because she “doesn’t want to deal with the slowness”. i literally am the person who has been there the longest except for her. i’ve only been there for 4 months. everyone quits after about 3 weeks

Man I'm really sorry to hear that. I don't have anything against people speaking in different languages, but for the love of God know your boundaries. Speaking in a different language in front of customers is a big no-no, and people around will get the impression your talking about them.

One of our supervisors and the manager frequently talk in their own language when they're alone together, but since it's out the back where nobody can hear them I have no issues with it. They always speak English when other people are around.
