conflicting recipe instructions during training(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by timeabouts
hello friends! i just started training yesterday and my trainer is really nice and helpful, but there are a lot of things he tells me about espresso and pump shots and the like that don't match up with the cheatsheets on sbuxdates and here (that i was using to study before i started actually training).
for example, these cheatsheets (and the app) tell me that americanos get 1/2/3/4 espresso shots, but he tells me that's wrong and they get one more than lattes (so 2/2/3/3 i'm guessing?). does it really matter which one i follow, or is it like different for each store maybe? i'm just confused.
thank you!

Ask your trainer why the beverage cards on the iPad are different than what he is instructing you. Always follow the recipe cards. Most Starbucks baristas were trained wrong in the first place and never bother to get the information from the source.

americano’s get 1/2/3/4/4 shots, flat whites get 2/2/3/3/4 shots.

IIRC the person who made sbuxdates no longer updates the page. That being said, unless it happened near-silently, Americanos were not changed. They still get 1/2/3/4 espresso shots for Short/Tall/Grande/Venti.
A grande latte would get 2 shots of espresso. A grande americano gets 3. So sbuxdates (and thus, you) would be correct in this case. Even if they were talking about iced Americanos, they still get 2/3/4 for tall/grande/venti.
When you're in store, you should have access to the recipe cards either via the back office computer, or via the iPad, so you should always have a reliable resource for recipes while working.
